Watching kennedy clear the ball from the centre bounces in the third quarter showed an incredibly well drilled midfield. I am not sure that Mitchell was able to be a part of that kind of structuring. Did anyone else notice that Kennedy was clearing the ball time after time in exactly the same way? I couldn't believe GWS let it happen.Comment

McVeigh who looked a certain retirement earlier in the year is now playing very good football again showing he is a key component of our back 6 and will probably get another year if he keeps performing like this through to the end of the H&A and the now looking more than likely finals.
Not many players looking like certain delists at this point and we need to make three changes as per AFL rules. Probably only Leonardis & BJ are certainties, Talia maybe goes? That's three. Have I missed anyone in the likely going list?
Melican is an upgrade meaning only two ND selections, pick 17 & 35 :-) Won't use pick 53. As always, will be an interesting post season.
Having seen a number of reserves games this year I think Pinke needs to show more, and also Ronke is dropping off. I think guys like Rose, BJ and Dawson are awesome talents but they are still incredibly focused on their own game. They play an incredibly aggressive attacking style of footy but it is hard to see how well they fit into a system. It is understandable that they are trying to show their wares in the NEAFL however I know that they have been told time and time again in match reviews to be leaders and bring younger players, especially top ups into the game. I went to the reserves on the weekend and saw these guys abusing a top up who was taking a set shot at goal for not passing it to them. Basically they put him off, and you could see he was distracted. I know they will get ripped in match review for it. I saw them a few weeks before against Canberra where they did the same thing to another top up. This poor kid had about 3 of them screaming at him to handball to them as he was taking a set shot. I guess its a tough world but even at the local sydney prems level you see senior guys encouraging and trying to settle young players down.Comment

Well deserved for Melican. He has embraced his opportunities in the seniors and looks as though he belongs. We have a pretty good record of either picking the right rookies or converting our rookies into solid players who go on and have wonderful careers. Hope that Melican has many more years to come in our backline.Comment

Reid's price will drop if he keeps getting injured. Missed him as the swing man on Saturday.Comment

Yep, similar build, disposition, and capacity to pluck a nonchalant contested mark. What a bloody great apprenticeship for the lad under Reg.Comment

Yes, well done to Melican for seizing his opportunity. And in a way, I'll be quite disappointed if the AFL cut the rookie list, since we do seem to do a better job than any other club, of turning rookies into quality players.Comment

The success we have with these kids isn't so much the rookie list as the development work and patience we put into these kids. That advantage shouldn't change for us.
Great news to see Melican sign up for three more years, along with Towers' finding his niche and Newman's arrival his rise has been great to see.
Time is certainly running out for Zak to sign on, next week will be key. It will be interesting to see how we handle the trade if he decides to leave, I'd like us to be able to use whatever we get for him to raise our first rounder to Pick 5 or 6 to give us a shot at a KPF like Brander or Balta one of who you'd expect there (Rayner, Fogarty and Davies-Uniacke seem to be almost universal top threes)Comment

What is Jones holding out for? More money or a Victorian Club. I would have thought that signing until he is a restricted free agent would have given him the flexibility desired.
Should we give Jones the Nick Stevens treatment and sent him to Brisbane in the pre - season draft?
He won't go to Brisbane and will be forced to retire or sign another contract with the Swans. I believe this was the ROK deal.Comment

I know where you are coming from but I think the change will really be in name only and related to conditions.
