On the gf I once saw a proposal that at first seemed strange but after thinking about it for a while seemed pretty good imo. You configure the mcg to the highest ranked sides home ground on gf day if possible. I personally think the biggest issue is not the travel, apart from wa sides, but the grounds dimensions. Look at the great Brisbane sides n their game plan would never have had to adapt in finals at the mcg. I like the gf at the mcg but it's become to much of an advantage for Melbourne sides. For some strange reason everyone talks about how it's an advantage during the season n lead in finals but just all of a sudden disappears 1 day a year. This idea atleast evens it up a little bit.Comment

I will give Longmire his due. His demeanor during today's interview was much better then I would of thought. Always a realist about our situation but was funny and a bit more relax then when I see him talking. Better for team and staff and his his actions in the coaching box is much more controlled.Comment

Seriously cannot believe there are still cries for Horse's head on the pillow.
He's got years to go. Your hands will hurt if you wring them for that long.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

There was an interesting story the other day re Mathews from GWS pushing for ANZ not to revert to a rectangular stadium.
Basically saying that if it stayed an oval then games like the Swans-GWS final last year could be played there again in the future.
I totally get that GWS don't want to play a GWS home final at the SCG (and vice versa, not that that would ever be entertained
ever). If both teams could get on board with the idea that any Swans-GWS finals (regardless of who earned a home final)
would always be played at ANZ then maybe that is a good thing, as it's hard to argue that 60,000 plus at an all Sydney team
game is not good for the code here. I think until the game gets bigger in Sydney it going to be hard to shake off at least some
of the Melbourne centric-ness of the so called national comp. Y'know, there are five million people living here, it should be possible.
Longmire? his team has lost two games by a kick in the past three months. I think he is going OK.Comment

Even if ANZ is rectangularised, it will only improve the lowest level. All the other levels are staying right where they are. So will only improve the game for sub 25,000 crowds. Or your average h&a NRL game.
One good reason to keep available to AFL is if they put a roof on it.
Conversely, just upgrade spotless to 35,000 and if it does sell out, increase ticket prices accordingly as a premium event. The grand final sells out every year and no one talks about increasing the MCG to 200,000.Comment

Aaaaaand, back on topic. I don't think Longmire did that badly against the Hawks. They are not playing badly recently and if we had a player who could give McEvoy a bit of a contest we would have won. We were a bit disorganised in defence, but they played nearly a half of football without scoring a goal, so it wasn't that bad.Comment

Ideally, they would knock down ANZ and build a decent stadium, but I doubt that will happen. I really have no idea why it was so poorly designed to be so flat. 35k still isn't that big for a big final, but it's passable in the short term. In the medium term it has to be done as GWS won't stay small forever and they will be drawing more than 20k to their home games.

Magnificent effort by all coaches tonight. Longmire has won at least 3 times on Geelong's home ground, the hardest place to win in football. No other coach gets close. Tribute to his motivational abilities.Comment

Based on the wisdom on this board I take it as an article of faith that Longmire can't coach. So presumably it was just a seriously good imitation of excellent coaching tonight. My opinion is objective truth in its purest formComment

Ruckmen are like Chicken McNuggets. They're not good for your health and even if you've a bucket full of them, you should limit yourself to just one.Last edited by Ludwig; 7 August 2017, 03:31 PM.Comment
