I reckon McVeigh will be given some kind of role at the club after he retires, too valuable footy knowledge and leadership wise to lose to another club or the game.

He certainly seems to be on a trajectory towards a coaching career. Remember that he got to coach a pre-season game either last season or the year before. Not many current players would get that opportunity.

I guess it remains to be seen whether the Swans will have a spot for him in their ranks, or if he'll need to move elsewhere for an opportunity. He may prefer to move to another club anyway, having spent all his playing career with the Swans, just as Kirk did.

Re McVeigh, it was said last year when he signed a one-year extension that he would go into a coaching role with the Swans:

?McVeigh will transition into a coaching role with the Swans after he retires from football. A decision on his playing future post-2018 will be made at the end of next year.?

I suspect the Giants thought they were recruiting for their future coaching panel when they picked up Stevie J at the end of his playing career. I'm not saying he won't join the Swans' coaching panel but anything could happen. And it might just be the best thing for McVeigh to get some experience within another club, even if he harbours long-term coaching aspirations at the Swans.

              I agree with that.

Hope the Swans sign Jake Lloyd up soon.

I would've thought that Jake Lloyd would have been a priority signing but I am starting to get a bad feeling about it. Fortunately or unfortunately (whichever way you look at it), his price is rising. It means he's playing awesome footy but it will eat further into our reportedly small salary cap space. On the other hand, if he does leave, he should net a decent draft pick.

I have always been a big supporter of Dan Hanneberry ( thought he was captain material early on), but maybe he could be put on the table as he doesn't seem to be a key midfielder anymore.

I am not basing this on last night's game but over the last season and the current one. Yes he has had injury issues that delayed his preseason and it may well be some of those big hits are affecting him now.

I am only putting it out there as thought.

If we had to keep one of Lloyd or Hanners? Right now it would be Lloyd

Hanners finally looked to be running freely. If he gets back to 100 per cent fitness, he will be a star again. Only 27.

Seeshhh what next???? Mother-Son with AFLW, Father-Daughter etc...
Kevin Bartlett (SEN) was banging on about a Grandfather-Grandson rule earlier this year!
Update: Luke Darcy had another nibble at this on Talking Footy tonight (7mate), where Nathan Jones (Melb) was guest. Darcy mentioned to Nathan under this rule Melbourne would have Zac Jones. Nathan responded that he tried to convince his brother last year to sign with them when his contract was up, but he was happy in Sydney. It was mentioned Zac's contract expires again next year leaving the option open for the Dees having another crack. Rest of the panel didn't show any interest in this brother rule proposal.

Looking at that 2013 draft where were picked up Zac with our pick 15, If Melbourne were that keen on Zac that could've done so with their pick 8 which they used on Christian Salem instead. Couldn't help noticing some real gems were picked up late in that draft, notably Jeremy McGovern 74 (WCE), Rory Laird 86 (Adelaide) and of course our own Daniel Rampe at 90

All 3 of those were rookie upgrades so those figures are fudged.
