If he said he wanted to go, the Swans often make those things happen. It could free up cap space for us too. Despite his form, it’d be sad to see him in other colours. Worse still, I’ve heard the Hawks are sniffing around. That I couldn’t swallowComment

A friend sent a screen shot that was off AFL TRDON (Facebook trade news post). I’m not on Facebook so I’ve asked him to send a link. I can’t post it here because when I tried to screen grab it, it said it was too big to post
It said “breaking news 22 minutes ago” & I got it at 732pmComment

St Kilda has reportedly identified Dan Hannebery as a prime target this offseason. A five-year deal is supposedly on the table from the Saints, to Hannebery.
(per. Talking Footy, 7AFL)
. . . . . . . .
I just heard Jonathon Brown say the Gold Coast should get a package of experienced players from the Swans. The list headed by Hanners and slso included McVeigh, Grundy and Jack. I would add Robinson, Towers, Marsh and Rose and make it such a big package that it will be called a Stringer.
So Hannebery's name keeps coming up in trade rumours. Maybe there's something in the air.
There is surprisingly little talk about FA Luke Dahlhaus, who looks to be out for the season. I would say he's leaving WB and the fact that it's so quiet makes me think the Swans may be on to it.Last edited by Ludwig; 6 August 2018, 09:04 PM.Comment

Whoa, that page is full of crap like this:
Brayshaw clearly lowers his upper body and resulting in gaff (who was clearly going to punch him in the upper chest like every other player does week in week out) punching the poor bloke in the chops. It was an accident! If the so called professionals can’t see that then there is a serious problem in the afl.
Jeez, there are some sick puppies out there.
BTW looked at the Hanneberry thread, most not impressed with the idea St Kilda should look at him.

Why would the Swans want to offload Hanners and pay $200k a year for the privilege?
"BOTH Sydney and Dan Hannebery are open to a deal that would see the midfielder traded to a Victorian club at season’s end. Foxfooty.com.au has learned the Swans will not actively ‘shop’ the 27 year-old around, nor will Hannebery aggressively seek to break his long-term contract. But if the right deal presents itself, the Swans and Hannebery would amicably part ways on good terms."
"For a player that has been part of the fabric at one of the AFL’s most consistent clubs, it’s understood Hannebery is now comfortable with the prospect of returning home and making a fresh start, but not hellbent on it."
"The clear stumbling block in any potential trade relates to Hannebery’s lucrative contract of $800,000 per year, which does not expire until the end of 2021. There will not be a prospective club that will be willing to foot the entire bill, meaning the Swans would have to contribute around one-quarter of his annual salary for the remaining three seasons of the deal he signed in mid-2015."Comment

Thanks, I found it. Here's the post:

The attractive part from out perspective is that the trade would probably involve a 1st round pick swap plus a later pick to the Swans and would allow the Pick 5 + Blakey scenario, which should go a long way to securing our midfield future.
I'm not sure about the exact details of FA compensation, and it is somewhat arbitrary, but if we are interested in Luke Dahlhaus and the Bulldogs interested in Hanners there may be a nice deal that could help both teams:- If we offer Dahlhaus around $700 for the 1st 2 years of a multi year contract, he could fall into the top compensation category, which would return a pick 7 to the Bulldogs.
- Paying overs to Dahlhaus moves the compensation up significantly for the Bulldogs.
- They can give us that compensation pick in exchange for Hanners and a 2nd round pick.
- The Bulldogs almost get Hanners for free, from a player/pick compensation perspective.
- The Swans get their 2 1st round picks and Dahlhaus, effectively getting a top 7 pick for a swap of players of roughly equal value.

Seems to be enough smoke to suggest there is fire. A huge risk for St Kilda to take imho, even at 600k pa -> if whatever is ailing him can't be easily fixed to a point where he is giving output similar to the expected level."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

I feel uncomfortable with all the talk about Hanneberry being a has-been. It feels like such an overreaction or witchhunt. He's had one bad season, where he had no pre-season and has been continualled marred by soft-tissue injuries. He's only 27. Give him another year, he'll come good.Comment

Agreed. It would be a leap of faith on their part. Still if they have cap to spend, and a need for experienced heads and few such options, there is a logic to it from their perspective.Comment

Unless (1) they reckon he's not going to rediscover his form (2) they've got something up their sleeveComment
