Mumford's contract expired this year. He signed 2 year extension in 2016 which expired end of this season. He has no lingering contract with GWS for 2019

Now GW$ want Carlton's first pick for Shiel... yes, as if spending the last xx years getting priority draft picks weren't enough.
Someone tell them they are dreaming.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

Well, don't we want St Kilda's first pick for Dan H. Both are contracted players. Anyway, we'll see.... asking and getting, they are
        two different things.

As I mentioned yesterday, teams with the Scott brothers coaching have really taken to the trade period and free agency and have been extremely aggressive each off season trying to improve their lists. I wish horse and co would move out of the dark ages and get on board too or we will be left behind!

So where is our great saviour superstar coming from? I think,in the ominous words of the Stark family, that "Winter is coming." It's time to find a new September hobby folks.

Something I've been meaning to chime in with: I don't know what picks we are going to wind up with, especially after matching the Blakey bid, but a player I'm really keen on in the draft is Luke Valente. He is likely to slip past the first round. He's not that big or fast but was SA's captain and (I think) MVP in the under 18 national champs and is a great leader, non-flashy, hardworker with good judgment and ability to kick well off both feet. If by some chance we draft him, I'll be delighted! A player I'll be watching over into the future. There are a lot of good SA prospects this year apart Rankine and Lukosius.

We've done well out of SA over the years too. I think we have good recruiting connections there (or invest heavily in watching their players). I think from our current list Hewett, Dawson and Reg all from SA as well as Rose.

That's why why really need to trade our pick 13 for a couple more in the twenties.

Tom Harley said the club was open to trading pick 13...

That reads to me that we will, it seems like a no brainer. The chances of Blakey falling to pick 13 are very slim you'd think.

In the old days, Brisbane and Sydney had a "retention" allowance. This was to be able to retain players from outside their state. As we can see from the significant go-home factor, aided and abeted by free agency, this still has merit. Sydney, being a destination club for a while there, caused its undoing. Its now gone.
"Cost of living allowance". This was a sydney thing due to the higher cost of living in Sydney. Gone now, but I dont think COL differential has changed. So now Sydney clubs are at a disadvantage. Although replaced by rent-assistance or whatever its called.

GWS and Gold coast have significant retention problems. These are always there for new fledgling clubs. But still real enough for Brisbane and Sydney
Sydney and GWS have cost of living problems. Sydney is expensive and not a footy state.

Without some sort of cap extension, these teams are at a disadvantage and more likely to end up near the bottom of the ladder long term.
Missed my point entirely, but what the hell.

“We have been in constant dialogue with St Kilda now and they have been pretty vocal in wanting to take their first pick to the draft,” Harley said.
“They don’t have many picks in the middle range but they do have future picks and players. So we are working our way through that at the minute. It is all pretty open and transparent.

I wonder what players at St Kilda tomharley is referring to ?

                      Future picks and players !!

Bloodsy, you tried to make it a GWS v Swans thing and I didnt give you the answer you wanted. Troll point not missed, but ignored.

Two footed players seem to be much rarer at the top level of footy than soccer, I think its an undervalued skill.
Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way you'll be a mile away and he'll be shoeless.

He is worth that in a trade, though- and Carlton are hardly saints when it comes to draft picks.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time
