Regardless of the reason for the trade or how desperate we were, it's a terrible trade. Fair trades are supposed to result in a win win or at least close to it. Harley must be a terrible negotiator.

Yes we all knew we were never going to get much for him, but to throw in pick 28 as well just rubs salt into the wound

        Very very curious that trade.

        Their are two possibilities:
1, We are REALLY in trouble Salary Cap wise
2, Something big is afoot tradewise

How can we be in trouble with the Salary Cap when Hawthorn are looking to bring in Wingard and Scully - how the hell do they have cap room with O'Meara and Mitchell?

Why didn't we just cancel Hanners' contract and then he could have gone as a free agent and gotten pick 14 in compensation from the AFL?

That trade was done on the basis that Hanners will never play better than he has this year and St Kilda did us a big favour by taking him off our hands. Otherwise, this is nuts.

How can something big be in the pipelines when we no longer have any trade currency?

It may not be a popular opinion, but I don't think Hanneberry is worth more than the Swans got. He is an OLD 27. 2017 appeared to be an "off year" but 2018 was even worse. Part of being a winning organization is knowing when to let go. I don't know if he has more than two years left in him, frankly, and there were too many nights last season where he was the worst Swans player on the field. And unlike McVeigh, he didn't seem to have too many leadership qualities. Like screaming at Aliir Aliir only to turn the ball over, again, by kicking directly to the opponents. Be honest, did we not all hold our breath close to every time he touched the footy? Saving the $$$ is the big win for the Swans...truly "addition by subtraction."

Exactly. That pick 28 might have been part of a trade for Langdon. (Or the pick 26, leaving pick 28 to contribute towards Blakey).

It's hard to understand how this fits in with yesterday's report that the trade was being held up pending Langdon's decision. Even if Langdon has informed the Swans he isn't interested in joining us, throwing pick 28 out of the window still makes no sense.

What will the Saints second round pick be next year? particularly if Dan doesn't regain form they should again be bottom 4 - so pick 19-22?

You can't have everyone. Unless you're Hawthorn.

I can only think the Hannebery deal was about getting it done for Dan, which makes me wonder what's happened in his life that he feels can only be fixed by moving on.

Anyway, it is done and let's hope they get the team dynamic working again next season. I fear that's more of an issue than talent.

The Saints will finish higher than the Swans. We're in the Premiership Spoondow.

Looks like there will be a new symbol for the Battle of the Bridge next year.

Feeling optimistic that we will see an improvement in our squad via trade

                        But if

the hawks get Scully and Wingard

We get Ryan clarke, let go of hannes and Rohan

                        Well that ain’t good

To me, and this is just wild speculation, such a poor trade hints at something more than just poor form and cap relief ... poor off field performance too????

I hear the Saints had to throw in a dozen rolls of strapping tape, a box of liniment oil and 6 water bottles to get the deal over the line.
