Reid is one of those players I've always wanted to see succeed. Seems like a nice, humble guy, very talented but weighed down by injuries and now age. I couldn't help thinking last night that he really offers nothing on the defensive front to keep the ball locked in our forward 50 and if he can't clunk the mark, inevitably loses the ball on the second effort. This was in stark contrast to the Lions talls. They are much maligned here in Brisbane for not kicking a stack of goals but they provide a contest, are good on the one on ones and will make 2nd efforts to win the ball for their smalls and midfielders pushing forward. We need our forwards to play like this and unfortunately I think Reid's body and age don't allow him to.

Its official, Sam Reid is the new RWO whipping boy. Not undeserved on current form. I think he's horribly down on confidence and pretty much the only genuinely tall forward so getting a lot of attention. In the wet.

I don't think he's worth much in a trade. Prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt and see how he goes with Buddy, Daniher and Heeney alongside him next year!

He wont be offered another contract when his current one expires. Time has passed him by.

JD has looked happy at Essendon in recent vision, I suspect we'll find out soon enough with both teams only having one game to go. Not sure how good the vibe is around Tullamarine, I read Adam Saad has put off contract negotiations and of course McKenna has retired homesick.

Good news about Papley as even if a trade to Carlton involved their first, it would only get swallowed matching Campbell because I reckon a bid will come around that point.

Still no official news on TPP & list sizes, suspect the AFLPA is playing hard ball.

I think Essendon will do a major clean out this year, and start a rebuild. They have over-rated their list for a few years now.
If thats the case, they will let daniher go. They are just trying to up his value with a few good games this year to get a good compo pick.

The demands of the game are so high now that you'd wonder how long Tony Lockett would've survived if he'd play today? I also think the quality (not quantity) of your inside 50 entries plays a bigger part these days judging by Hawkin's performance this year, who is the nearest to the modern day version of Plugger.

I'm more than happy for Reid to see out his contract/career with us but suggesting he may become an excess if we do hypothetically land Joe Daniher. Teams like Brisbane & Collingwood may become his preferred destination if playing & winning finals is his immediate priority.

So true. These days there are 200cm + ruckmen who play like an extra midfielder (Grundy Goldstein Gawn Natanui) with elite skills, running and endurance. Or 200cm full forward snapping with non preferred foot, from the boundary at full speed (Hipwood last night). Even the midfielders now are 190cm plus, close to 100kg (Bont, Cripps, JPK) but have lost nothing in speed and endurance (?maybe not as skillful) compared with yesteryear.

Reid will be fine when he isnt the number 1 forward, more than a handful to match up on, a good bailout option and versatile

Wouldnt be worth a mint so no need to trade, not sold on Pruess.

Now this won't happen but if the Hawks out Gunston and Breust up for trade, we could nab them and have a 2013 GF winning forward line with Buddy! Throw in Isaac Smith for a Hawks reunion.

Noticed that AFL live panel mentioned Allir Allir made be traded out to Hawthorn or other teams that need a tall defender.

I think you’re right - that means 1 more year. Reid has played 9 games this year; he’s kicked a goal in just 3! This will sound harsh, but I think Reid may be the worst performing player for his position still in the team - the reason being there is zero competition for that role.

Dude looks in need of direction/coaching.

McLean is better value than Reid now as a KPF. Not saying he is a long term answer but he is more effective than Sam who looks a bit past it.
