I don't think the Swans would trade Aliir without getting a ruckman from Port or a pick they can use to get a ruckman from another club. I know some here don't rate ruckmen but without being at least nullify the opposition ruckman it's hard to dominate in the middle.Comment

According to SEN, Saints are offloading 2 players to Crows in order to give them the cap space to pay Crouch enough to trigger pick 2 as RFA compo.
The two Saints who could be off to Adelaide as part of Crouch negotiations
I wonder if that will happen? Damien Barratt is adamant they won’t get pick 2

I think it's pretty cheeky for Port to come for our contracted player and rule out both of their two understudy ruckman who might satisfy us. Of course, if those players were unwilling, it's academic. I would happily do a straight swap for Ladhams. I don't think Hayes is worth as much because he's completely unproven but I think he's worth getting. So, if we take a pick then we would want to have another deal lined up for that pick to get us a ruckman or some other important need. All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001)Comment

List management does now appear to be a very testosterone fuelled, aggressive business.
Hinckley wouldn’t express an interest in Fantasia this week, until Fantasia has publicly expressed an interest in returning to SA. But I wonder if he’s the public face and behind the scenes clubs are trying to prise players out of their contracts all the time?
Allegedly the Bombers have made a ridiculous offer to Josh Dunkley to do just that. Having done something similar with Jye Caldwell.Comment

And the two clubs with the greatest season slogan, Carlton circa 2010 "They know we're coming" then they proceeded to tumble down the ladder for another decade and Essendon's 2012 season "Whatever it takes" and because of bad house keeping losing the spreadsheet, we don't know exactly what they took!Comment

The report is that Adelaide will take some salary off Kilda by getting two St Kilda players so that St Kilda can offer Crouch big pay deal so that Adelaide will get pick 2.
That is as shoddy as it gets.
But if it’s given a green light by AFL which it would given how hopeless they are then we will be effectively pick 5.
We will then have to choose from Will Phillips, Tanner Bruhn or Denver.
Tanner is from Geelong side and the risk of losing him is too high. Maybe we would choose Will Phillips then.Comment

I know what you mean.
My thinking is that the Swans don’t have a lot of $ to splash around or any draft picks, unless we use pick 3 or raid 2021s draft.
So I am sure we are looking to pick up players as cheaply as possible. The later you play your hand the better ... that and the uncertainty over TPP and list sizes.
Surely we have to bring in a ruckman and a forward!Comment

AFL need to stop the blatant manipulation of FA and compo picks, many of the suggestions are plain and simple rorting of the system at the expense of other innocent (Swans) clubs.
One I saw was because Geelong don't want to give up picks for Cameron so, GWS don't match Cameron, receive pick 9 compo, trade that to Geelong for pick 11 & 13.
GWS lose Cameron but get 11 & 13 which is what Geelong is currently refusing to trade, Geelong get 9 & Cameron for 11 &13. All that at the expense of every other team because the AFL create an extra pick 9.
AFL should stop that by embargoing the compo pick. It should be GWS match, Geelong cough up 11 & 13 so they pay from their own pocket.
Time for the AFL to rein this stuff in and try to fix the whole Vic centric poo showLast edited by 707; 23 October 2020, 02:13 PM.Comment

Does anyone know what the rules are around tampering/Free Agency in the AFL? I know next to nothing about it and can't find a simple summary, to the relatively ignorant (me!) it seems like Free Agency has been adopted without a huge amount of governance over it (so we looked to other leagues for the easy bit, no the hard bit)?
Obviously a different universe (and players still recruit other players etc.), but this article has a good overview of the sort of things considered in the NBA- note the $500k fine to the Lakers for having someone reach out to the representatives of a contracted player (and that being viewed as a slap on the wrist).

We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment
