Hewett is more dispensable because of the plethora of midfielders and variety in their midst too.
Aliir a bit less dispensable as we dont have anyone who can play the utility role as well as Aliir. Maybe Sam Reid can do the job but hasnt been allocated to do so. Even if he only plays defense he is one of the 2 tallest players we have along with Kaiden Brand.
So I would put more value on Aliir than Hewett.

Again this is a way the team knows their players value in open market. To check what they can get for them in return when their currency is up and see if you can get anything in return for the betterment of the list.

My take is that both will stay.
I agree about the relative values of the 2 players. It's a good point you make about using the market to test the value of players. I too think that both will stay, but it depends on what value others place on them and make an offer we can't refuse, so to speak.

Shopping Hewett around is smart. He is a fringe player and if we get something for him + free up cap space then that's a win.

Losing Aliir is a totally different story. Would be a crime to lose him for Hickey or a 2nd round pick.

Top 3 F&B, we dont have dodoro, Sydney shopping anyone is stupid.

We got a 2nd round pick for Jones, at best the others get us a totally irrelevant 3rd rounder

If Mills is on $600k+ he's the one who should be on the trade table. Would free up more $ then AA or Hewitt and close checking half back flankers are a dime a dozen

Third rounders help build points to pay for two midfielders they probably think will outperform George in the long run.
Never doubt the wisdom of Kinnear. He is building a list for 2025, not April next year.

If we must push someone out to save salary - Reid. Not Aliir. And definitely not Hewett. I guess the problem is that nobody would take Reid on his contract and we'd have to pay part of his salary whereas that probably isn't the case for Hewett and Aliir.

I know we're paying Buddy a lot but that can't be the whole story and I fear for us to have salary cap problems with just about the youngest list in the comp doesn't look good for our list managers. It does however go some distance to explaining why we've been so quiet on the trade front the past few seasons.

I fear we may have had to overpay Heeney to keep him from North (Andrew Ireland said we had to pay him handsomely) and probably Mills and also our other young talent. I haven't been receptive to trading players like Hayward and Florent because they are our future - but that opinion could be subject to review depending on how much they're earning. If they're taking up disproportionate cap space and someone comes hard for them, then that could be a different situation.

If he is pushing out players about to hit their prime he is building a rod for his back.

Sends a great message for Dylan, Blakey and co..... develop here then leave, we are like GWS 5 yrs ago

Also swap future 3rd and 4th rounders for this years if we need points

OK, can you explain then why we are tipping out two players in their prime to trade in a 30 year old ruckman who won't be playing in 2025?

Only reluctantly and for hopefully better picks. We'll want our picks again next year if possible. However we should be able to trade down our pick 25 for a decent profit and we'll probably wait for the best deal to do that, even if only on draft night.

Get academy kids this year plus pick3 a good haul, next year use picks in 1st and 2nd rounds, our team is too young too be worrying about what we get in round 3 and 4 next year

There was talk on here a few weeks ago about George Hewett having not been signed because of list sizes. Maybe that wasn't it; did he want more than we can pay?
