If Hickey is first ruck I don’t see Sinclair getting a game. He’s had moments as a forward but by large he ain’t a forward. We’d be better off having Reid chop out occasionally.

Between Reid, Franklin and Sinclair, we're lucky to have more than one of them available at once due to injury. Sinclair will get games.

So in summary a fit and firing Naismith would most likely have kept AA happy this season and beyond

No Hickey would have been required

        Plan B was executed

          Net gain of 395 points
395 very valuable points this year PLUS we now have TWO picks, 25 & 34 that we can swap for multiple later picks and gain even more points.

Let's not forget that we are gaining two top five talents at the one draft plus Gulden who looks an endurance ball magnet. We've also still got our first and second in next years Super draft.

There is a plan, the club is working towards it, sometimes a little sacrifice is needed. Still tomorrow to go, plus four weeks to trade picks and the ND, three very good picks and Papley Jnr late :-)

              Final summary
It probably takes 6 to 7 yrs in the making for a swans team to truly contest for a GF going this route of slow drat rebuild and has beens coming on board for peanuts

Yet some Melbourne teams can rebuild on the run and stay top 8 and compete for finals

Preuss was option A - went to GWS
Nankervis was option B - re-signed due to Soldo ACL

Ladhams and Hayes - not available

Hickey was the next best......he will be a stop gap until someone better becomes available or Naismith by some miracle recovers and becomes reliable

Interesting article.. I suspect it echoes the majority of what we are all thinking.....

That’s true , what I should have said is Sinclair won’t be in our best 22 if Hickey is the first ruck. I’m sure he’ll get games but I think he now becomes depth, not a regular 22 forward who pinch hits in the ruck.

If you are referring to Geelong, think they will crash and burn in 2022. Look at Hawthorn.

We were able to do it for a while, but not forever.

Not for 3 years though.... and not losing a quality back like AA to get him in. Despite the fact that AA teased, he will be a beast for PA.. we let him go too cheap, particularly when he was still in contract. I have no problem letting players go, but obtaining adequate compensation is the thing that really irks me about that trade. I don't believe we bargain hard enough. LY we had Dodoro holding the cards with JD, and we nearly folded - thank goodness we didn't. This year we were dealt the hand, and we surrendered too meekly.

I really believe we need to have a sterner negotiator in to facilitate trades. We are just way too nice.

Geelong is the only Melbourne team to do this and they are NOT a Melbourne team which is part of their magic in being able to do this. But they have the oldest team in the AFL, even with the lure of country lifestyle and remarkable property development opportunities for player and massive home ground advantage on the cigar oval, they have a reckoning looming.

Let's see how Wells, under pressure for probably the first time in a trade, handles it in the next 24 hours, fascinating day tomorrow, Wells with Cameron, Dodo with Dunkley, Pies with a blown TPP, strap yourselves in folks :-)

Doubt we'll do much more, pick trades will wait for a few weeks or be pre arranged for draft night.
