Reads like a George Hewitt clone.

If we really want to pick him, why would we tell him that so that such a rumour can escape?

He does, but perhaps with more penetration in his kicking and a little more pace. So, an upgrade.

But not appearing in any top 40 lists published so far, I ask why?

I think its premature to describe him as an upgrade on George, and unfair on George himself. George was (still is) a seasoned, consistent and highly competent AFL midfielder. In their wisdom the club chose to move him on, presumably for balance reasons rather than because they didn't rate him. (He did finish on the podium in the B&F just a couple of seasons ago.)

His description may read as if he has similar attributes to George, but he has a long way to go before he deserves to tie George's footy boot laces, let alone be considered any kind of upgrade.

Just read Foxsports 26-50+ write ups. I know it seems every potential draftee every year has star potential, but a lot of these sound very tempting and it is being touted as an even and deep draft. Lots of picks, even in the 30's could net some nice players.

              Molan didn't make their lists

I've spent some time recently re-watching some of our wins from this year, you forget how good Hewett actually is, I'm surprised we let him go for a late 30's pick, could only have been $ in the end?

I don't think it was simply dollars. If so, when Dawson made his decision, there should have been plenty left in the cap. Maybe it was too late by then, but I got the feeling that the Swans had already committed themselves to moving him on for "list balance" reasons.

They struggled to find a role for him early in the season, playing him in that unfamiliar defensive role. He was adequate but it didn't seem to come naturally.

When he regained a position in the midfield we were reminded of just what a solid and reliable midfielder he is, but I think the Swans looked at their younger brigade and decided they would prefer to maximise opportunities for the likes of Rowbottom and Warner and McInerney and (maybe - in the midfield) to Campbell and Gulden as soon as next season. And Papley reminded us in the second half of the year that he can be a potent weapon at centre bounces, too.

I agree ... draft rumours are really not worth wasting time analysing.

It's more productive to offer educated guesses as to what kind of players will be drafted by the club. (My guess: midfielders and defenders.)

I have seen nothing in any of the reviews that says he is equally as good on either foot or either hand, a major strength of George. Does anyone know if he has a preferred side?

Reading the reviews they are all made to seem like ready made stars while we know many will not make the grade.

Yep, Molan sounds like George alright.....obviously not 'flashy' enough to impress draft predictors and stand out as a potential 'star' but eminently serviceable, the type of player that coaches and fans love. Worth a punt I'd say.

I will definitely miss George....the efforts he put in to try and help us win that first final against the Giants were epic and tireless.....and he reminded us all of just what he is capable of at his best.

The shame re George is that he would make first 22 of many teams and he has already taken photos of his son wearing Carlton colours (future F&S selection loss - which makes this post on point for this thread).

It is because we drafted midfielders Stephens (yet to prove himself) and Campbell with high picks.

If we had taken or mid to small defenders/forwards, we would be pushing out Fox/Wicks/O’Riordan/Bell or if we had taken bigger forwards/defenders then we would be pushing out Reid/Almarty/McClean/Melican.

                              All better losses than Hewitt.

In years to come, if Stephens doesn’t improve substantially and is a bust, he would have cost us both the number 5 pick and Hewitt.

Agree but he needs a decent chance before we can write him off
