You would have to assume he has heard that the Board is divided on what action to take re the football dep't review. Maybe he feels publicly declaring his interest in the job may swing some of the decision makers. You have to give yourself every chance but it is pretty unsettling for Teague and the players and should be frowned upon by the Coaches Assoc.

I thought it was refreshingly honest and forthright, which is a change from what we ususally get from the football media and "personalities".
Lyon wouldn't have gone on record about Carlton if he didn't already know that Teague was a dead man walking. I highly doubt that Lyon spoke in the hope of swaying the board about Teague, he's not a moron.
If Clarkson and Lyon are available candidates, Carlton would be negligent to not at least speak to them about the possibility of replacing Teague, and it sounds like they are heading down that path. Football is a results driven business, if you're not getting them as a senior coach, your head is on the block. Most coaches don't retire or resign voluntarliy.Comment

There's a difference between Lyon talking with Carlton (or Carlton speaking with Lyon) in private, and making a quasi-pitch via the media for a job that already has an incumbent. It lacks grace.I thought it was refreshingly honest and forthright, which is a change from what we ususally get from the football media and "personalities".

Is Ross Lyon a popular figure amongst Swans supporters? He was a key assistant coach during the great 2005 and 2006 years?
Do the Swans faithful consider Ross as one of their own?Comment

I don't think most of us consider him "one of our own" but are grateful for the job he did while an Assistant under Roosey. I would think he would have most loyalty towards Fitzroy from his playing days, then the Saints and Freo given he was Head Coach at both places for some time. He is a ruthless professional whose real loyalty rides with whoever is paying him the big bucks at the time.Comment

That was essentially how we started the season - though you could argue that, unfortunately, Naismith hasn't been 'ready to play' for a long time.
I think having just Hickey and a couple of 'chop-out' options in McLean & Amartey would leave us far too exposed. I don't know if there are any mature body rucks in the SANFL or WAFL that have shown potential, but that might be a low cost option.Comment

His dad played for South Melbourne and he was an assistant coach with us. I have little respect for Lyon after the way he left St Kilda for Freo. The master manipulators may be applauded by some but I am so happy that the Swans have had coaches such as Roos and Horse. 'Integrity' seems to be a much undervalued attribute in many fields of endeavour.

The other thing is, and I say this as something who really likes McLean, he's not a ruck. He'll do the pinch hitting stuff as required, but he's not that skilled at either the tap work, or the role around the ground. That was essentially how we started the season - though you could argue that, unfortunately, Naismith hasn't been 'ready to play' for a long time.

I love his games like last weekend and some of his games earlier in the year where's a hard working, lead up, meet the contest, pull in some marks, straight goal kicking, bullocking tall forward. And if he can keep developing his game and provide that physical presence doing the bash-crash type work, it'll take a lot of pressure of Logan McDonald while he physically develops.
He's not going to be as skilful, but think of the work Himmelberg did for Cameron during GWS' peak years.'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment

My understanding is that he lost a substantial amount of money on a series of investments he was involved in with his "financial advisor"I have little respect for Lyon after the way he left St Kilda for Freo. when he was at St Kilda, and was in a bad way money-wise, and that was behind a lot of the reason for the move to Freo. He spoke a
bit about it a few years ago.Comment

I'm sure most of us feel a lot more affection for Roos and Horse (both flag winning head coaches of extended tenure) than for Lyon (cantankerous, occasionally smarmy and with a very defensive gamestyle). However, I would be cautious about distinguishing him too sharply from Roos. Roos and Lyon are close friends, and have been from their playing days. That was why Roos handpicked Lyon to be one of his assistants when he took on the head coach role. I imagine that Lyon would have discussed what moves he might make with Roos before playing his cards.I have little respect for Lyon after the way he left St Kilda for Freo. I think there is something about Ross Lyons utter ruthlessness that crosses into psychopathic territory. Like there’s no line he’s not prepared to cross.
Whereas you realise with Horse that he knows there are things more important than AFL.Comment

His graceless performance may backfire. Carlton have enough blood on their hands already and may draw the line and not reward his public plea. Eddie could easily have egged him on to do it for ratings- McGuire is an absolute maestro when it comes to gaffes.Comment

Perhaps his best moment last week was skilfully tapping the ball sideways and backward in open play to a running Papley ?The other thing is, and I say this as something who really likes McLean, he's not a ruck.
