Any of these would free up a good amount of cap to potentially pursue a Lipinski or Ross type (throw in Constable or Sier).

But all being equal, I'm very happy with our midfield options and would prefer we re-sign who we have rather than shed a few to sign a fringe player from another club.
Lipinski, Ross, Constable and Sier are second tier players we can do without. They would end up being list cloggers like they are at their own clubs. Sier struggled to get a game at the 17th club. Constable! Anyone would think he is a superstar but still can't get a game at Geelong.

Im not sure who would have signed him up 3yrs ago with the potential to 600k + ? Wasnt that the main reason he wanted to be traded to get out of that contract ?

He is worth it now no question but wasnt at the time.

Yes. I'm not sure why we're talking about other team's depth midfielders. If we're expending resources on anything other than player retention or draftees, it's key position players and rucks.

Hi Matthew it has been a problem for a while I'd say 6 months plus - it has only been since I shifted to a Samsung Android....not a problem when I had an iPhone?

Exactly! Was about to post the same thing myself Nico.

Why are posters throwing up names of non best 22 players at other clubs to fill list spots here whilst we let go Swans best 22 players - it's stupidity. None of the players mentioned would improve our best 22. Let Carlton and Saints chase them, it's what they do.

I think it's flavour of the month by the gutter press to say we're in serious cap trouble but every club except the bottom sides is struggling with cap space after the Covid cuts. NOTE - still no announcement from the AFL/AFLPA of TPP for next year.

Interesting that 26yo former AA and club champion Matt Crouch was only offered a two year contract by the Crows, he didn't sign as it was insulting. His manager has obviously done the rounds of other clubs looking for suitors with a better deal - Crouch quietly signed the Crows underwhelming offer yesterday. That might show how tight other clubs caps are as well.

Good example 707! In parlance terms this is not a seller's market, which makes the trade period this year take on a different landscape.

I find it quite extraordinary that the AFL is yet to advise the Clubs of what the Cap will be going forward. They are all flying blind as they try to re-sign players and manage their list. Ridiculous!

I suspect there are atleast two truths to the above

Anyone on this forum could have said the same about Mummy, Kennedy and mcglynn coming here to the swans and being list cloggers like taylor, Brand, Gray, Clarke have been so far.

Or paps, Lloyd and or Rampe being list cloggers?

Plan A ee sign everyone we want to keep - but will that team be enough to win a GF......I'm not so confident as I think when we are close enough to start being a top 4 team.

It appears we are in our window a year earlier than I expected .....and when in ur window u give urself the best chance don't u?

Plan B if we can't keep them all because of one simple challenge ie another team offers way over and above for a player that we can't justify matching ie a 4 year contract and heavy front ended then my preference is not to go an early pick 18 yr old at the draft. I would rather trade in experience and emerging talent ready to play snrs and support our GF endeavour.

If Plan B is our only choice because we could match a high offer.....and we are close to our window given we came 6th on the table and have Bud, Kennedy and Rampe still with us........shouldnt we be striving for our best plan B outcome ie another key player traded in or two emerging 22 to 24 yr old mature emerging players traded in so support a top4 finish and a possible GF ?

My strategy would be to go all out to re-sign we want and let go of those who are fringe, depth players and replace from national / rookie drafts, unless they were happy to play on minimal wage.

Clarke, Brand, Gray, Ronke, Ling can all go. Sinclair and Naismith retire. Consider letting go Stephens, Gould and regrettably, Hewett and COR. All can be replaced by draftees. Surely we would then have sufficient cash to re-sign Parker and Dawson. The main game is the AFL and would be happy to wear the hit to our VFL stocks. Just pray we keep a relative fit list............

In addition to above, I feel we are in our premiership window. Watching both finals, we are better than all four teams and will be more than ready to take it to Port and Melbourne, who deservedly should be GF favourites in 2022. With this in mind, we need to prioritise match winners like Parker and Dawson. Depth players get you through a long season but don't win the big games. If they don't want to play for the minimum, replace with someone who will.

How on earth were we entertaining the idea of Joe daniher last year when we have such a salary crisis this year?

The trouble is finding the right"emerging players". Carlton and St Kilda are examples of going for anyone from higher teams. Eade made the mistake of recruiting this way after 1996 and we slowly ebbed away. North look like they are having a clean out and it will be interesting to see how they fill the void. David Noble is a smart cookie who I suspect will go to the draft and build from the bottom up. Even Ziebell and Tarrant are no certainty to stay.

I say get our current A class player signings done, do our delistings and then see what experienced players may be available. If we follow past patterns we will draft at least 3 players and rookie a few more. We have already re-signed Amartey and Sheather of the younger brigade.

A decent middle aged key defender should be at the top of our quest, if there is such a player available.

Reasonable scenario, he would be the perfect play for GC, but somewhat unbelievably they are apparently under significant salary pressure too. Who would have imagined all these northern states under salary pressure? It's almost like they need their own arrangement in order to compete with the other states. If only such a thing existed...
