Cut price inside mid worth looking at would be former Sun, Jacob Dawson from Southport. Watched a few of his games and he was immense. Lead the VFL in average disposals per game at 34.7. Was a big part in Southport's impressive VFL season.

Strongly disagree with the comparison to Hiscox. Jack didn't look like a footballer, in my view. Dylan had a down year with his confidence, but has shown enough (particularly last year) to suggest he could be become a decent player.

Real class in his first two goals in the AFL:
      - Gutsy first goal for Stephens

Still on Stephens, those two clips reminded me that he played forward in the last VFL game of the season (https://twitter.com/cleary_mitch/sta...370076165?s=19). Maybe that's where they would play him next year.

Hope you're right. I was super impressed by his draft year highlights, in particular SANFL clips and he seems like a very measured, thoughtful young man (I might have made the comment that he's the sort of boy you'd like your daughter to bring home). But this year has been very underwhelming. Hopefully it's the Covid situation and happy to go with the club on what they do with Dyl.

Long time lurker, first time poster

Hopefully the Parker deral is done, Gerard should get that right on the couch. If Neale goes I expect the Lions to extract picks 6 and 8 from Freo and their pick 14 should be enough to get Mitchell from the Hawks.

Clearly we have a cap issue and I suspect we can only afford one of Dawson and Hewett. Stephens would appear gone as I would expect is Reid and a bunch of list cloggers.

I would probably prefer Dawson to stay but would not be unhappy if it's Hewett who signs. Eitehr way we should get a bit of trade currency back

I also expect we have one eye on the future with the crop of kids needing new deals end of next year plus Heeney I believe. Not to mention Buddy maybe going around again.

Would not surprised if we trade out our first round this year to 2022 to either West Coast or maybe Freo.

Whatever happens, we are in good shape and life goes on

Neale is a master negotiator. He got a front ended big contract and got paid handsomely in years 1-3 in Brisbane. In years 4 to 5 in Brisbane he wasn’t going to be paid as much. Now he’ll go to Fremantle and get paid hugely in 2022 and beyond. He’s providing for his family and playing the AFL like a puppet master.

              I can only admire Neale.

Poor old Luke Parker. He’s most probably taken team 1st contacts and not made the big money like Neale. He’s been a better leader, almost as a good a footballer as Neale and hands down a better club person.

He won’t make the big money like Neale. It’s all good for fans to say that Parker’s a great Swans man but how does that help Parker in 10 years time knowing that Lachie can flip many more houses than he can and he was as good a player as Lachie.

I feel sorry for Parker if 2 years at $500,000 was the deal offered. I hope he leaves for better paying pastures if that was the offer. He needs to look after himself.

Don’t be so sure. And I’m not sure what’s to do openly admire about scheming and unethical behavoiur.

If it’s true he got a heavily frontloaded contract then the Lions should and will demand absolute top trade currency. I’d say pick 6 and 8 or Lachie stays. Maybe more….

For now the days of player power are over

Glad to hear Parker close to resigning.

Speaking of Parker, does anyone remember and have a link to a commercial ad of AFL where it features fans talking about their favourite player. Specifically a scene in which 2 women chatting in an office talk about Luke Parker and one of them is all dreamy eyed saying 'Luke Paaarrkker!'?

If clubs don’t have mechanisms to claw back money from players who are paid heavily front ended contracts and leave at the lighter back ends, then they have no one else to blame.

Can you imagine a law firm, tech firm or a big corporate who paid greater money to employees in the early years of their contracts not having claw back mechanisms if they leave at the lighter ends.

I think Lachie has played a blinder. It’s not unethical behaviour from Lachie, just playing to win business in exploiting a contractual weakness.

I remember the ad. No idea what it’s for.

I always wanted to rediscover an old soup ad which had a number of Swans aboard a boat at sea. From memory the soup was warming them up. I just remember how bad an actor Jason Saddington was. Think Goodes was in it too.

It would be clubs offering the front-ending more than players demanding it, because they had cap room in the short-term and wanted the flexibility later.

And in any case, as WomblingfFree said, the mechanism a club has against being exploited is holding the player to their contract, or demanding significant trade compensation to consider it.

I think it’s a bit harsh the assumptions that Neale had manipulated the whole situation anyway - if your partner is pushing for you to relocate and there was the option to at least ask to be traded, it would be hard for him to say he wasn’t even going to try.

Good to see you back BS.

Some of the things you say are a bit extreme but I think the site is better with different voices and opinions.

The reports are that Neale got paid 70% of his whole contract value in the first three of his five years.

That doesn’t seem heavy, assuming each of his years is worth the same, after three years he gets laid 60% on pro rata basis.

So he is paid an extra 10% in his first three years when his body is younger and less banged up, big deal, no steal and nothing to see here.

Just a beat up by Brisbane or media trying to increase trade value or create controversy respectively.

Bangalore, I couldn’t disagree more. It’s very ordinary behaviour by Mr & Mrs Neale. I can imagine many companies who actually enforce a contract in its entirety, where the person who signs it is actually the forced to fulfil it.

Picture this Bangalore. You and Mrs Bangalore engage a contractor to do renovations on your house, you pay them a portion up front, say 30% and then more as they commence the work. Once they receive 80% of the fee they say to you “Sorry Bangalore, I have had enough of this job, I’ve got a better offer. Bye”

Does that seem right to you?

That 10% should be returned back to Brisbane and he should only be paid 60% of his contract for the three out of 5 years of work. A good corporate contract would enforce this. Probably doesn’t help Brisbane a lot as that extra 10% that Neale was paid can’t we help in future salary caps.
