As good as he is or can be, the 1mil mid days are ending, look at coniglio amd even kelly. If these guys are a risk, no one is getting that deal anymore unless your sam walsh

There's a fundamental right for people to be paid what they are worth, whatever field you work. That said most people can usually get mor eelsewhere and stay for other reasons (success, happiness etc)

It's not reasonable to expect a player to stay for massive unders. I expect if we can come close he'll stay and we won't insult him by offering an insulting offer.

It woudl seem obvious we are prioritising Dawson and the fact we haven't seemed to open any negotiations with George seems to indicate we'll only do so if the Dawson deal falls over and we can offer George a compeitive offer.

As an aside, what is the view of ressies watchers of Gould stepping up next year should Dawson leave?

I think the issue with Gould is that there is an uncertainty as to what sort of defender he is. Is he a big bodied KP type or is he a rebounding, intercept, 3rd / tall or medium type? Having watched alot of reserves, my feeling is the latter. Just seems to lack the body work and height at this point to be a KP type. But he has a booming kick, good hands but at this stage, lacks the tank to run all day off HB. Hopefully that comes and voila - a right footed Dawson.

I'm not convinced that Gould has the mobility and athleticism to be that intercept type defender. He is shorter but heavier than Lever. Aliir is quite a deal taller and much lighter. Both move around the ground much better than him. I'm comparing him to those two because they are amongst the best interceptors this year.
Gould is also not quite big and strong enough to play on the monsters. He seems to be working hard on his deficiencies but whether he remains on the list is problematic in my view.

I entertains some. It annoys others. For me, it’s the worst time of the season. Speculation about losing some of our favourite players. But when it’s based on nothing or inaccurate information it’s not fun at all. It just pi$$es some people off. It creates an emotional roller coaster that isn’t fun. It’s not entertaining. It can create friction. It can cause depression or emotional angst. What’s worse, some journalists are actually paid for essentially providing misinformation. If I gave the wrong information in my job, I would lose it. In wouldn’t find that entertaining at all.

Said getting his contract done was all about going through the process and that he put it all on hold a few months back to concentrate on footy and the finals. Spoke passionately about the club, the closeness of the playing group and the excitement of what lies ahead with this group of players.

Showed up what a pack of mis-truths have been spread about his recent contract negotiations. So much for the "my contacts tell me" and the "it's being reported" etc.

Next cab to re-sign IMO, Jordan Dawson who is probably going through the process of dotting i's and crossing t's as Parker has just done. One brick at a time folks ...

I know for a fact that the McCartins were very troubled to hear from that rat Tom browne that their sons career might be "over" with concussion in early 2019 when it was really nothing of the sort ! He had to issue an apology to the Swans and thats why you don't hear much about the Swans out of him these days !

All of the above. I got a message from a “friend” early this morning saying that Parker was heading to the club he supports based on “solid” intel he got from a past player associated with the club. We are currently no longer talking for the moment, after a hefty spat via SMS. Daniel Bradshaw had a massive falling out with Brisbane when he found out about him being offered as trade bait.

It’s easy to say ignore the chatter, but people are emotionally invested. For some of us, it’s not about the club we support now. It can be about generations of loyalty - my friends child is now a 5th generation Swans fan. Their passion runs deep and they take much to heart and no amount of Bangalore or anyone else telling them different will change that. And clueless journalists flippantly throwing up baseless theories and conjecture as though it was fact fuels the flames. You might find it enjoyable banter. Others hate it.

I have never agreed with you more than when you are on the warpath against the footy media! They are among the lowest bearers of journalistic standards in our country!

My disgust is more with the networks and publications that give these figures a platform in the first place. The continued employment of Wayne Carey by Channel 7 and TripleM on presumably north of 500k, after his past dotted with utterly immoral and unethical behaviour, is telling of the sport's stance on everything from mateship to violence against women. Then there are those such as Barrett, Edmund, Morris, and Browne as you mention, who repeatedly get their facts wrong and aren't held accountable for it. As I believe you said a few weeks ago, quite poignantly I will note, footy journalism seems to be one of the few fields where you can do your job poorly on a public stage over and over, and still get to keep your job!

“True die hards” are part of the lifeblood of clubs. They take out the extra memberships. They buy the merchandise by the tonne. They turn up to matches regardless of the teams form or the weather. They make donations of time and money. Does that sort of devotion not help the club financially, which impacts every area of the club and thus the club’s development?

As recently as 15 years ago, the blokes getting on it on the occasional weekend, and having a few sneaky durries, would be fairly normal. Hell, there were some players that regularly smoked - and good ones too. I think Geelong's Paul Chapman was one. It'd be far less common these days and a lot of players go the whole season without a drop touching their lips, or at least not while recovering from injury.

Personally, I couldn't give two hoots. They need to manage themselves, and the ones that do it well prosper. If a couple of beers on a Sunday night after a Friday night game, and on an eight-day break, help them release some of the tension of being an AFL player, go for it. And then make up for it with harder or better training.

As for your meta question, there are degrees of devotion. But what most people on here object to is journos clearly running with made up garbage. The idea we ever tabled a two year, $550K deal to Parker is absurd. I'm sure we have cap pressures. I'm sure his contract negotiations involved just that - negotiations. But that was just crap.

How do we know? Because just like Tom Morris is contradicting Tom Morris on Dawson, he did the same on Parker. It was going to be a haggle over the fourth year, and a few dollars, before it became the low ball two year thing - which suggests the Swans were negotiating backwards from their own starting position. Yeah right, Tommy. Go flush yourself.
