I think this is a good point. Even if it's not the whole reason (and money is part), it's feasibly part of the reason. If Dawson was in SA this year, he'd have been at home the entire time and able to see his parents. I think he's settled with his girlfriend. It's not like he's seeking a trade to any place.
Still super disappointed and surprised, though. I thought he was committed.Comment

That’s the other thing which pisses me off. We gave up Mitchell and Aliir for absolutely nothing. Hi Hawks, how about we give you a future brownlow medalist and you give us a crap first round pick. Sounds fair.
Bet we do the same with Dawson.Comment

I get the leaks like Rohan, Mummmy, Hanners etc that can happen.
It’s losing top YOUNG talent that’s the issue. Aliir, Mitchell and now Dawson.
Sure we signed Parker and got Hickey as part of the Aliir deal. However both hardly have their best footy in front of them.Comment

From the bits and pieces of the academy games that I've seen, I think Angus Anderson is the most likely. A tough inside mid with a rugby background, who uses the ball creatively. He also acquitted himself well in a VFL game this season. Last time I looked, he was the only one from our academy to be invited to the draft combine. I think he's probably done enough for a rookie spot.
I was hoping to check him and a few others out, in an Allies game, but it seems that their games have been cancelled. These are our players who made the squad. Toby Alker, Kye Pfrengle, Liam Puncher, Felix Rogers, Angus Anderson and Pierce Roseby. Pfrengle was really good in the first academy game of the season, but he was injured the rest of the year. He was our best defender for most of the game and then went forward late, and looked our best forward. Roseby would have helped his cause, by playing a couple of good games at VFL level.

inferior. And didn’t he say a little while ago for us not to worry? Maybe we just have to accept that loyalty is becoming rare these days. Sad for us supporters.Comment

Gutted. Huge loss. All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001)Comment

Least it may help us keep McDonald at the end of next year. He may be more influential than Dawson. Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.Comment

Other question is whether it changes the equation for George.
“Err, sorry George, didn’t realise our email was down and the contract offer didn’t make it through.”'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment

I reckon we will offer him a very long contract should he go well over pre-season and establish himself a position in the forward line early in the year. Noting there is always risks with key forwards that they may not make it, but the WA clubs will sniff around more than Cousins on a Friday night at the first hint they think he might be gettable."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

I think this is the first time in recent memory where we have lost a player that we really wanted to keep.Comment
