        Shocking list management. Absolutely pathetic.
Don't know about low balled him. He said he wanted to stay and it was only a matter of working out some finer points, or such words. Seems he was always going, but chose to use weasel words.

Still super disappointed and surprised, though. I thought he was committed.
          There's the answer; the girlfiend.

It used to be that we never lost players we wanted to keep or we only let ones go that weren't that good. The recent trend is disturbing, players going to bigger and better things and players we want to keep leaving.

Given how many young players we have in the team the salary cap management is not up to scratch, that we couldnt come up with enough for a 3yrd player like Dawson is very distressing.

Under no circumstances should we ever sign another deal longer than 5 years and only then for a young player.

Its no surprise that the teams with very long term contracts (Sydney - Franklin & Collingwood - Grundy) are absolutely crippled in their salary cap. Getting Buddy was smart and its clear Hawthorn were happy to let him go but the 10 year deal was a mistake we are still paying for. No issues with his performance but such a long deal has meant no ability to finesse his deal to fit cap needs.

We need to stop the obsession with over paying for as superstar player, the clear trend of the game is to gather a group of very good players rather then get a superstar.

Up steps Braeden Campbell to fill the breach. Only thing missing is the overhead marking.

Don’t quite see how Buddy’s contract has to do with it but I get your drift. Money talks and top 6 clubs are top because they have very good players who all command pretty massive coin. Very disappointing and interesting to see what deal the club can do trading, assuming he can’t be persuaded to stay. (Wishing and hoping).

Lots of assumptions there.....with an aggressive after taste.

Geelong turned the Kelly loss into some good early picks for them so the task ahead for us is to extract a similar good trade.

I will await Tom Morris’s analysis.

In my opinion the next four years of Dawson were going to be better than the next 4 years of Parker. I’m a keen follower of American sports and I know the decision that would have been made with this scenario.
Leave it alone, BS. After the Dawson shock, none of us are in the mood to read your efforts to pump up the tyres of journalists who just look for headlines.

Dawson was always leaving. He put off contract talks until after the season and informed the club of his decision after the team had all gone home to various parts of the country.

Very disappointed that he matured with us as he did and is now taking himself elsewhere. And you'd think he's matured enough to handle the lack of family ...
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I fail to see how he is going to get more money at Port due to the cap.

Why would you want to play for Adelaide? They are at least 2 years off finals.

It’s happened. Let’s get down to business.

Is the pre-season draft still an avenue for uncontracted players who are not free agents?

If Port or the Crows don’t play ball can the Swans say to Dawson that we’ll stick you in the pre-season draft and North will pick you up?

Could we then give Dawson the same choice as ROK following the 2008 season? It’s North or us because Port and The Crows are not providing enough.

Dawson could then sign a Swans contract to get him to free agency where he may change his mind.

The reality is that if a player is out of contract then you have a poor hand at the trade table though at least Adelaide do not have pick 1 in the PSD.

I’d expect that the Crows second round pick and a later pick swap in our favour is the best we can hope for.

Will be interesting to see if we try and keep Hewett or bank the cap space with an eye on the future and try and use the money to tie down Logan.
