Club should make a stand like we did with O’keefe if we don’t get a realistic deal in return . If not march him to the pre season draft , I’m sure North will welcome him with open arms

I might also add I have no issues with him wanting to go back to SA . These are crazy times , just hope he does the right thing by the club in return

Our club are practical traders and will find a way to get a deal done. But they should at least lightly dangle this over him as a way of motivating his manager to go get the best possible deal for us.

You slightly misunderstood my point Stevo.

Not saying we should be happy with his decision - I'm as pissed off as anyone else, and there is nothing wrong with negativity about it - its clearly not a positive decision for our footy club.

But it is something altogether far more sinister (and very sad in my opinion) that some take that to the extreme lengths of then targeting really ugly abuse directly at players on social media or whatever other mechanism they find. We've seen so often the disgusting nonsense these pond life 'fans' will send the way of someone that, whether we like his decision or not, is just a human after all, with emotions like anyone else.

For mine, its never acceptable - its feral behaviour, and as I said, I'd be happy to jettison such fans as far away from our club as we could.

He should expect negativity - sure. But no-one should have to put up with some of what people post in those spaces. Just like the nonsense Bell had to face the other week. It should not be condoned in any way 'okay behaviour', no matter how frustrated, how annoyed, how angry one is about something.

Abusing Dawson is wrong , shouldnt wish unhappiness on anyone , i would know that feeling and dont want anyone else experiencing it .

Career wise i hope he never wins another match wherever he ends up

Edmund is amongst the worst of a very poor AFL media scrum, looks like he's recycling last weeks "news" sprouted by fellow low lying media.

This is not about money, it's about location

Disappointed with the personal attacks on Dawson in here, I'm as gutted as anyone but these are difficult times and I can tell you it's perfectly normal life here in Adelaide at present and has been for most of the Covid period. It's a big lure.

So it had nothing to do with family.

Exactly. As if it ever did.

We have salary cap issues that blind freddy can see and clearly didn’t offer enough. That is disappointing.

Of course, he has had this in the pipeline for ages. At least one player agent will earn some scratch in what might be a lean year for them.

True. But taking of my red & white glasses, he’d be a fool if he didn’t. As for agents, they’re just like job recruiters - they don’t care if the move is the right one for the player, they just want their cut.

If Adelaide or anyone else won’t give up their 1st round pick for Dawson what are our options???

Try and involve some other club in the bidding that will give us a better deal. The problem is he and his management appear to be set on Adelaide (most likely Port) so this is a long-shot.

We can always refuse to do a deal and hope we can convince him in the off-season to reconsider and sign with us. The latter is very high risk as the most likely outcome would be he goes into the PSD and we get nothing. He could end up at a Club like North, Collingwood or Hawks then!

Without the courage of Edmund and Morris we as a supporter base would have no idea of the salary cap pressures.

Thank goodness they are around to keep us informed.

Anyway, back to my point about us targeting KPPs. Watching Melbourne last night, made me think to go look at their team when they last made the finals in 2018 vs now. The core of their midfield group was there - Viney, Oliver, Pertraca, Brayshaw, Gawn, Harmes.

What’s been added to the team that lost a prelim vs West Coast that year: Lever (though he was out injured), May, Jackson, Brown, Fritsch and Petty. Melbourne has improved in lots of different ways, but that’s a massive gain in KPPs and marking power at both ends of the ground.

We’ve got the elements of massive midfield depth, we don’t have the same with our KPPs. Let’s go get em as we enter the window.
Feel anyway you want and hate players leaving but still not appropriate in my opinion to label Dawson a cry baby running home to Mummy. Loyalty a 2 way street. Presumably Swans won't offer a loyal servant like Hewett a new deal.
Agree with everything else you wrote.
