I guess he has the chance to get super fit over the summer and hope to impress someone to take him in the PSD. I saw him play one impressive reserves game last season and then he had that brain fade resulting in a lengthy suspension. Who knows after that as the season was effectively over for reserves players.

We have an urgent need for a strong tall defender so he is in the mix. I still think its at best a 50/50 chance that we will pick him up. Talia might be a good option but whether we can afford him etc is doubtful.

Paddy was very impressive in a few ganes before the brain fade
It’s because we have Sheather and there’s a few other promising types that we allow a few others to go ..I’d love to keep Hewitt bit Sheather could be seen as someone ready to add to that midfield area from day 1 next year

Which he also was last year when we overlooked him before the season and mid season.

Don't get me wrong, I really wanted us to pick him up both those times too! I agree that he is just what we need now and believe he could rejuvenate his career as a defender (barring any more injuries). I also think he could be even better than his brother as I think his kicking is also a weapon which may be a big call as Tom has shown a lot in the last year and a half!

We will see.... but I'm not as optimistic as others on here regarding us selecting him after last year.

I'm wondering whether Parker will give the Brownlow a serious shake this year.

Last year he came equal 5th, although only half as many votes as the winner. But the umpires like him 15 votes last year, 16 the year before.

The difference is he played 5 more games this year, received nore free kicks and averaged 5 more posessions per game.

And with the Swans winning 12 more games this year than last, you'd have to expect he'd pick up more 3 vote games than last year when he only got 3 twice.

You're missing Clarke, Gould and Carruthers. Pretty sure O'Connor is out of contract too. People say Bell has triggered a contract extension, but I'm not 100% sold on that either.

Sounds like Wicks and O'Riordan will be done in the next day or two

I thought Fox was rumoured to have also signed a one year extension.

Sheather is much more a medium sized forward then a midfielder at this point.

He may well challenge early next season for a place in the first 22 (only have to look at Warner to see how quickly players can come on after a really good pre-season), but I suspect he is still a little way off. But showed some really good signs this year however.

There’s a chance. What he going to cost, a pick in the 20s? We could potentially get someone like Smith for less than that.

The one difference i see is Fox keeps contact with his opponent from the couch I watch the game from. Melican's biggest issue is he loses contact with his opponent. If he got this right he would be a far better defender. He also falls over a lot.

On Dylan Stephens: I suspect the drop in the interchange numbers has restricted his time on the ground. Make sense that more experienced and seasoned players will be kept on the ground longer. I noticed he and Rowbottom had games at around 60% TOG and there were probably a few more. Makes it difficult for a young player to have an influence and gain valuable experience.

In close games coaches are going to try to keep their best 18 on the ground in close finishes.

The trouble with the Pelican is that he is injury prone and then takes 3-4 games to find a bit of form. He showed promise when he first broke into the team and so we were hoping he would develop from there. I still think he is worth persevering with as in reality we don’t have anyone else. Robbie is serviceable but shouldn’t be expected to play on monster forwards- his position is HBF imho, and he could fill that role well. Blakey on one flank and he and Lloyd on the other. Could he be a replacement for JD? Not as good a kick or mark of course, but quite quick- any thoughts?
J Mac on the wing and Stephens if he stays.

This is a very good observation and actually sees Melican fail to utilise one of his advantages. His first few steps are a bit slow, but he has good closing and top line speed. But if you've lost your opponent or are on your backside, it's of no help.

I both like and get frustrated by Melican. His best is more than serviceable, but boy, he can have some shocking moments. One of those players I want to succeed and hope he gets a good run at it without injuries, particularly as we build our KPD depth.
