The pre season draft order does not change and no trading impacts the draft.

If North had done that deal with Adelaide and I think they should have, then Dawson’s only avenue to get to Adelaide would have been the Pre-season draft.

In that event North or the GC don’t even need to speak to Dawson. If they want to pay his money then they take him.

People will say it’s never happened but whose to say it won’t. John Blakey may say pay the money, we’ll hold Dawson for a year and then trade him and get some trade collateral back. Or keep him because he can be a premier inside midfielder.

If that were to be on the cards Dawson may decide it’s better the devil you know. We then sign him for two years at a reduced $400,000 a year.

Dawson and Adelaide may outsmart each other.

I sincerely hope that you're wrong, Waswan, but you may well be right. Its a terrible indictment on Adelaide that they would just disregard us totally and not even offer us a half-decent deal. Perhaps the rules around PSD will need to change after this?

Maybe North or Gold Coast will take him and he’ll be somewhere he doesn’t want to be. Adelaide will then move on from him and he’ll know he was played.

Well that would be justice, BS! Out of interest, has there been any player ever go to the PSD and NOT end up at the club of their choice?

The Adelaide FC are acting like they have a primary obligation to their fans, the club and community to achieve a rebound in their on field performance which overrides all other considerations. Or they are using this as an excuse for not acting in good faith with the Dawson deal, because like in the corporate world, the prime obligation is the shareholders, the rest be damned. This can be argued successfully because the pressure for on field success is so great that and the consequences of failure so harsh. The interests of the Sydney Swans drops way down the list of priorities of who is to derive the benefits from recruiting Jordan Dawson.

Adelaide have to recover from a lot of hits in recent times and have little pity for those who are doing better. There's a lot a stake for them to succeed. I don't agree with their tactics, but I understand them.

We should do a deal with North

Offer to take Polec off their hands if they draft Dawson in the PSD

              Would call the Crows bluff

Machiavellian conduct is pointless bridge burning when your coach is Matthew Nicks.

Bangalore yes they COULD take him but you are forgetting one crucial component in all this, the main reason why no club almost never does it! Jordan has to agree to sign a contract with North or GC...

Yes they could pick him out of spite (why would they) and then he'd either have to reluctantly sign a contract with them or sit out the season a la McCarthy a few years back.

That's why it isn't going to happen. He'd be more likely to change his mind and re-sign with us prior to the PSD but I think we also all know that that is also very unlikely given that he'll know that the Crows will select him.

We either get some sort of deal done with them that we will no doubt be unhappy with or lose him for nothing... Thanks Jordan...

I have read that Adelaide have failed to nominate young Blayne O'Loughlin as a next generation Academy pre selection for the draft as they already have 2 category B rookies they are keeping on their list. I would love us to take him, 1 to keep the famous bloodline in the red and white and 2, to spite Adelaide as the article says he is still in their draft plans if he is available with one of their late picks or rookie selections.

He has some tricks that I think we could definitely make use of!

If he nominates his terms - which will align with how he fits into the Crows cap over the next 5 years, any other club will have to have those terms also work out with their own cap won’t they?

And if they do draft him, are they stuck with his contract cap limitations like we are with Buddy ie of Bud went early, his allocated payments were still taken from our cap even if he wasn’t at the club for any reason

And if he chose to sit it out, would it be for the duration of his nominated contract? … ie 5 years

This is not legal so far as I know. That could be draft tampering, and the AFL would come down hard on anything that violates the integrity of the draft.

If it was done in a smart enough manner it’s not draft tampering. It would effectively be a salary dump by the Roos to enable them the space for Dawson, the space we now have with him leaving

As for draft tampering, the AFL didn’t do anything about Bailey Williams or Archie Perkins in recent seasons who were pretty blatant on their draft tampering

Great intel. Dawson’s partner may be supporting him for a while if he refuses to take a PSD offer from North or the GC. People on here are betting that this won’t happen. The reality is that it could happen, particularly with John Blakey who knows the player.

The Crows may pay overs for him if North or GC have any interest (assuming the Pies are a no go). Being a heavily overpaid player relative to your production can be problematic. This can lead to a Collingwood v Trelor situation which is not great for the player.

In any event it was a remarkable advertisement for all the unique skills of an AFL footballer. First to read a smothered ball, chasing a ground ball, picking up a ground ball one handed, assessing what’s in front and kicking with intelligence. He ended kicking around his body to avoid physical pressure and had to kick the ball before he crossed a certain point.

I pay $280 a year for my NFL game pass (best content investment I ever made). Imagine if the American’s off the back of plays like that start being curious and start watching AFL. The AFL could potentially make a lot of money from selling international passes to its AFL game pass platform.
