I think many on Red and White would love to know who the ratbags are.

Would you ever disclose who the ratbags are if you were talking to a Red and White community member in person.

If John Longmire’s rescue effort comes off the Pilates studio may be announcing her return.

Not necessarily. I doubt it's the first conversation John has had with him since he (Dawson) requested the trade. And working off Jordan's desire to see the club compensated, something along the lines of:

"You know we value you really highly and will be disappointed when you leave. We respect your desire to be closer to family and friends, and understand the burdens that border closures have placed on us all, but Adelaide aren't really working with us at the moment to come to a trade that reflect how valuable you are to us (or to them, given the length of contract they're giving you). If you are mostly intent on returning to SA, how about you consider letting us talk with Port instead. We think we can work out a trade that will come somewhere close to how we value you. And of course, can I be cheeky enough to suggest you're still very welcome at the Swans. You could sign for a couple of years, and if in a year's time you still feel the strong desire to return to SA, we will do our best to orchestrate a trade then. Or the following year you will qualify as a free agent. You know that something special is brewing at the club right now, and how good would it be if you were a part of that..."

I admit that professional sport has flaws. If you don’t like it, follow amateurs where participants don’t get paid. There is plenty of local football being played all around the country. But if you want to watch and follow AFL, then I suggest you accept that not all players are of equal value: just compare Buddy to our 22 nd player in our team and tell me how that player should be remunerated, eg a James Bell- no disrespect James!
I think you misinterpreted some of what I said, but understand how it can get confusing. Firstly, I don't consider myself a socialist, but have strong beliefs about racial and other types of discrimination, which some people confuse as socialism. I believe in free markets when it makes sense to have free markets. I have personally benefited from the capitalist system and have been part of the system. It is purely on an objective and non-political analysis I have concluded that capitalism has destroyed the planet and has brought huge suffering upon hundreds of millions around the world. There's no need to get into a political discussion about this, because it's really not about politics, but rather about how societies are organised and who benefits and who loses out. And by the way, China is not a socialist country, but like many western countries, has aspects of socialism as part of their socio-economic system.

I agree that not all players are of equal ability, but all players are equal as human beings and can be compensated on simply being human football players without consideration of ability. All the players participate in the benefit of team success and the coach picks the best team based mainly on ability. We are only talking about how the players are compensated. A player of lesser ability may have to work harder to make the side than a more talented player, so an argument can be made that the player with lesser ability should be paid more. It's just about how the value system is constructed.

And as for finding local amateur footy in Thailand. Good Luck!

Good to see Jordan has come out saying he wants the swans properly compensated . Always thought that would be the case , seems like a genuine good young man . Would love him to stay but wish him all the best . Still think he would flourish more at the swans

I think you've got the gist of what our coach should say to Dawson. I hope he consulted you before he picked up the phone.

He could offer one more sweetener to the deal to lure Dawson back to Sydney. Ludwig will be moving to Mae Taeng in January, a small farming community around 35km from Chiang Mai. It's very peaceful there. Ludwig would be happy to homestay the Dawsons during the off season. Mrs L is an exceptional cook in both Thai and Western food and doesn't mind sharing a few beers with the boys, if they are so inclined. There's plenty of gardening to do where the Dawson can dirty there hands in the soil. It's a bit like Robe with an exotic twist. I can give a pointers to Jordan on improving his game and a few other things in life, except for kicking. Maybe Jordan can teach Ludwig how to kick a footy more than 10 metres.

Pilates used to be Pirates before they turned to amphetamines.

That is brilliant, Liz! The Swans definitely should have you as part of the negotiating team.

Why don’t we offer to relocate Dawson’s in-laws over to Sydney? Maybe somewhere close to Dawson’s place. I’m sure there are some people on RWO who would give them free board and lodgings.

Fair call Ludwig- I guess I misunderstood some of your points. Given the way human nature works, there would be issues if players of lesser ability and hence value to a team were remunerated equally. But I agree that would be awesome in an ideal world. Unfortunately it ain’t gonna happen!

Hope the Dawsons take up your offer- a win/win!

In fact does anyone in Sydney other than Swans fans have any idea who Jordan Dawson is?

Plus having chosen the Crows over Port, Port fans will give him hell (as will quite a few Swans fans I suspect).

He will need to escape to Robe as frequently as he can!
So true. If he thinks he's heading back for an easier life he is sadly deluded. They may both be two-team towns, but Adelaide is football obsessed whereas Sydney basically couldn't care less. Good luck expecting less intensity!
My opinion is objective truth in its purest form

I’m not sure that the intensity relates to football, perhaps, rather just the pace of living in general. Adelaide runs at a slower pace. They built a fully functioning covid hospital in China in a week. In Adelaide it took about 3 months to fix the footpath near my house. & it’s not the laid back Queensland kind of slow either. The footy scrutiny here is a bit intense but so many other aspects just aren’t. you can walk the CBD, corner to corner in an hour if you’re brisk. And you can still find free parks in the city.

If Dawson made the comment about Sydney being too ‘intense’ then undoubtedly he was referring to the pace of living. What those of us who commented were saying is that there will be a high degree of everyday footy-focused intensity for Dawson in Adelaide, unlike Sydney, which he might not have taken into account.

Then again he played for Sturt before being drafted, so he should be fully aware of Adelaideans footy obsession - and that of the Adelaide Advertiser.
