I don't think we'll get much better, and I hope we trade it to get in to this draft or for a decent defender.Comment

Is the current system really that bad though? Most footy fans I'd say don't really like a lot of player movement into and out of
their team. We mostly look at things from the perspective of the club. We support the club through thick and thin, we (mostly)
like the players. They are two different things. Ultimately we know that our support of the team will outlast the playing career
of any of the players. We will be at the games, and they won't. They are just passing through really. Many of them will be
loved for many years but eventually as they get older and slower and their skills fade they'll get gently shown the door to be
replaced by a younger, faster and more skillful versions of themselves.
The players are important though. They are the ones doing the work out on the field that we enjoy, and they need to be
around long enough so our attachment to them can help underpin our support of the club.
We are more okay with the club cutting or initiating a trade of one of the players than a player saying they want to leave.
If the club initiates the trade then they are making a sound, strategic decision but if the player says he wants to leave then he
is being disloyal. That's kind of how it works.
Many people are writing about Dawson at the moment. But let's face it, this bloke has had one really good year. It may be
his only really good year. How many really good years has Sam Reid had? It's not a given that one great year is followed
by a bunch more. If Dawson's contract had finished last year and he said wanted to go back to Bullamakanka at the time
then I reckon 80% of people here would barely have blinked. But now that he has become a much required player and still
wants to leave the Swans he has committed the additional sin of rejecting Sydney (the place), a city that many of us regard
as the greatest place on God's green earth. Well, one of them anyway.
If you employ all the mechanisms that currently exist to replenish a playing list then I think it results in about the right
amount of player movement each year. Not too many players leave or are pushed and not too few. Dawson is just one guy
passing through.Last edited by KTigers; 11 October 2021, 01:44 PM.Comment

Uh oh.
Port Adelaide will not accept Pick 31 by itself for Peter Ladhams, who wants to play for Sydney. The Power feel the ruckman is worth a pick in the late teens and will ask for more if the Swans propose a straight swap for Pick 31.

Don't think it was ever offered formally. It was that plus a bunch of pick swaps, which it seems was more than likely well and truly in Adelaide's favour, not ours."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

Get the Crows to chuck in pick 33. We can even send back something like a future 3rd. Give 33 and 39 to the Pies for 27 and 48. Give 27 to Port.
However I reckon the Swans just say we aren't interested in Ladhams at that price and wait for Port to come crawling backComment

Does anyone know why PSD draft picks cant be traded?
It sounds like the best way to ensure the Crows trade fairly, if we were to trade into a pick before the crows in the PSD. But I guess, conversely the crows could trade with North into first pick in the PSD, and then not deal with us at all.Comment

We still remember how you screwed us on Aliir. We have Hickey, Armartey, McLean, Naismith coming back, we just resigned Sinclair. Keep Ladhams one more year at his inflated, back ended contract and we’ll keep our first rounder. He’ll be out of contract next year and we’ll remember our Dawson situation this year. Seeya at the trade table next season.Comment

Sounds like Adelaide has now offered simply Melbourne first rounder for Dawson. Which supports that their offer last week was that pick minus a bit (i.e. pick swaps in their favour). I suspect we will push for a bit more yet - would be awesome if we could eek a 2nd rd pick swap in our favour out of it - but even if we got say a future 3rd rounder, then that could be broadly okay I guess.Comment
