Might be a fair point , I also seen he looked to be cramping badly late in the Collingwood game which was a worry , makes me wonder if he had been doing little training late in the year.
All said and done Heeney is likely to be our highest paid player know and we simply need more from him than what he delivered in the final series . For us to take that next step he needs to become elite , I look at comparisons with Petracca that’s what we need him to become , but probably a little more playing forward than Petracca now does

I'd take Degoey and trust the club to keep him on the straight and narrow. He's just what we need. What's this years Academy crop like? Any likely prospects?

We are just extricating ourselves from a long and burdensome salary cap squeeze. We just spent our top 2 draft picks on inside midfielders. How in the world does Jordan De Goey make sense for the Swans?

Why would we cut the legs out from under our top draft picks? I don't think Chad would be too happy about handing over the mantle of midfield gun to an outsider. Every player that's half decent will want a big long term contract, including Papley next year.

And players will demand several weeks off for personal leave to unwind in Bali.

        I can't see it working.

Yes, and apparently the sticking point in his contract negotiations with Collingwood, is that they want to include some sort of behavioural clause in his contract. I imagine that the Swans management would want to include something similar, if they were actually looking at signing him.

Not much in the current cohort. Probably the best prospect is Webster, who's mainly played as a KPD and has done well both for the academy and the state side. He's also looked up to it in a few VFL games that he's played. Having said that, it's more likely that he'll be a rookie selection, rather than the draft proper.

Perhaps a few others have some chance of being rookie listed? Brett Kirk's son Indi. And the over agers: Edwards, who's a reasonable key position prospect, and Anderson, who did okay in a few games as a big bodied midfielder.

Next year we might have to spend a high draft pick on Caiden Cleary, who was the leading possession winner in the futures game on grand final day.

Yes, a beast. An ox …,. With a similar brain. The fact that he’s balking at behaviour conditions tells you what he’s like. A big Noooooo!

What does De goey coming have to do with Chad ? He can still be a midfield gun , he would just have another one beside him !

Just in from the AFL website 'Sydney pair Jake Lloyd and Harry Cunningham ..... have been offered new deals to be take them off the free agency list'

AFLPA has said no off field behavior clauses can be added to contracts, now a battle of wills between DeGoey and the Pies - watch this space ;-)

Rankine to Cows getting close to agreement, likely to be pick 6 to the Cows

That's the theory, unfortunately thus far it's not what's happening. Perhaps in 2024 the leopard will change his spots, or better yet the mids will stop using him as a kick-and-hope target.

RE The calls for a midfield bull
A big body mid may have helped on the weekend (but so too would an effective ruck division) but size is no longer enough - speed is also needed, otherwise JPK wouldn't have lost his place in the midfield. The combination is quite rare, and the need may decrease as our young mids develop and/or we fix our ruck.

If you look at a list of the highest contested possession winners and the best clearance players, you will find a mixture of sizes that's fairly representative of midfielders in the league as a whole. You have shorter players like Neale, Touk Miller, Prestia and Darcy Parish among the leaders. The physique of the player is not necessarily an indication that he will be a good ball winner or clearance player. It's just one beneficial attribute among many.

Not against it, BUT at 193cm he’s smaller than the Macartins

A talented player with a troubled history. It depends on how things go with Melican and Gould. I think Melican will leave next year anyway, and perhaps he can find a new home this year.

I wonder if Essendon would be interested in a player swap for Ronke or Wicks. They can use a small forward with AMT and Devon Smith going. And we have an excess of small forwards. Bell can always be thrown in, although I'm not sure I would call it a sweetener.
