Tarryn Thomas “wrestling“ with handing in trade request at North Melbourne
SEN are reporting that Tarryn Thomas may be getting restless at North. He's one player - maybe the only player potentially on the move this off-season - who'd I'd love to see in red and white. I hate the idea of ransacking any club when they are down, but I could probably make an exception for North.
He had his issues this season, with suggestions he wasn't fit enough or committed enough, but any club who can get his head in the right place could have a top grader on their hands. And I think he'd complement our existing midfield group well.
Thomas last half of 2022 was outstanding, if he wants to come to us, I'm all for it. We have the picks to get it done.Comment

Our 2nd rounder might be enough except it is with Port. Pick 19 might do it but there are players in the draft I would use it on. Our 3rd rounder might not be enough. Would be happy to tell Melican that he is stuck behind the McCartins and would have more opportunities at North and convince somebody (who is left) that Melican is the answer to their defensive needs and that they need a clean out of disgruntled players and take TT. Don't see it happening though.Comment

I'd happily hand over either of our first round picks for Thomas. He's still only 22 and, based on our drafting over the last decade or so, the likelihood of us using a teens picks to find a player whose ceiling is as high as Thomas's is pretty darned low.Comment

Sorry Liz, that was of course meant to read 2021 when TT looked every bit worth his pick 8. I'm happy to deal a first to Norf, the guy has top level talent waiting to be tapped and is ready to guy unlike an 18yo draftee. Hope we're talking to his managerComment

The other concern that I have is that we have a lot a similar types of young players, so he could squeeze out a player of similar calibre. Hugo Hall Kahan is a similar size and similar skill set. I've been impressed with HHK and see him with a similar ceiling as TT, but it's a small dataset that I'm basing that on. I would prefer to use our 2 first rounders for KPPs this year.
We really have to milk these hypothetical trades, because it looks as though we are going to be the least active club in the trade period.Last edited by Ludwig; 3 October 2022, 05:07 PM.Comment

I'm just catching up on today's interesting set of posts. Here are my thoughts for what its worth:
1. Great news on Lloyd re-signing. He is a very consistent and dependable player. Generally good under pressure too. We have essentially re-signed all of our key players coming out of contract. This reflects well on our club culture. Many others would love this outcome.
2. I think we need to bring in another developing ruckmen and delist one or both of Crayfish and Stretch.
3. Some admirable out of the box thinking about Gould from Ludwig. Personally, I don't think he is quick or agile enough to play in the midfield but it could be worth a try.
4. One reporter recently suggested we give McLean a try as a key defender to play on the monsters. What do others think about that prospect?
5. Tarryn Thomas is a big yes from me if we can entice him up to Sydney. I would give up one of our first rounders for him.Comment
