Umpire number 15 seems to only be able to give frees to one side.

Other than that, I thought Clarke did well to muscle up and turn the tide, when Coburg were coming hard. Amartey had a nice patch as well. And I think we go a bit better, when McAndrew is in the ruck.

Fox was part of Amartey's goal with some gut busting run. I personally would like to see him back in the Seniors - dunno who would be dropped.

Hey Aprilbr - you are there correct? Did you think that kick from Coburg was OOF? Looked at least half a metre over to me - I am only watching the stream not at the game
Yes, Fox has looked pretty sharp today.

Would like to see us come home strong after that 3rd quarter capitulation, but enjoying seeing former Swans Jack Maibaum, and son of a former Swan Tom Silvestro (Jim’s son) featuring prominently for the Lions

3/4 message from Laidley was for the midfield to go hard at every contested possession situation for the first 10 min and then they should fold due to our superior fitness.

Yes, I was right on that boundary and it was definitely across the line.

I haven't seen McAndrew this quarter, is he injured?

I don't understand how the Swans reserves with 17 listed players can't thrash a Coburg team who are 1 and 5 with a percentage of 52. I wouldn't be surprised if Laidler was part of the issue. Would prefer Rhyce Shaw. Not sure if I am expecting too much of the team and Laidler.

Don't worry, he's back out there. Though I haven't seen Anderson for a while?

                    My thoughts:

Good players - Clarke, Taylor, Stephens, Fox, Gould, Amartey and Reid.

We have all thought this before, but, if Sam Reid could kick straight he would be a great of the AFL. Easily the best mark at our club.

                    Roberts pretty good too.

A solid effort. We controlled that last quarter although they got a couple late. Out of interest, Wicks, McInerny and Warner were there to support their team mates.

I thought the coaching set up was pretty professional actually when you hear it up close. Every player comes onto the ground from the interchange with clear instructions on who they are playing on and what their role is. Laidley and Mathews were up high in the coaching box but were relaying messages via earphones to an assistant in the dugout. It was quite effective from what I could see. I am not as sure as others that Laidley is no good. I recommend coming to a Reserves game like this and getting up close it gives you a whole new perspective on things. Great day out!

Thanks Aprilbr for the reports from the ground - always great perspective to get. I miss not having regular reserves games here in Canberra anymore, as used to really enjoy heading along a few times a season, and as you did today, sitting close to the benches and hearing what is going on.

I'd add Ronke to the bests as well. He finished with 22 disposals and 2 goals playing a small forward when the ball was coming in high all day. He also set up a couple of goals with beautiful long kicks.

Melican and Sheather were also good in defence. Coburg got so many goals from frees, it's hard to make a true judgment of our defence, but they looked pretty solid, generally speaking.

Fox had a great 2nd half. Stephens got better as the game went on. Roberts slowed down, but he put in a ton of work throughout the game; he gave away a lot of frees that I didn't think were there. Amartey should be playing seniors.

Poor by the seniors to not show up to support VFL side

Agreed on Armatey, Ludwig. I guess he has to push Ladhams out of the seniors to get back in? Surely McDonald's excellent form last night means he is secure now? Roberts and Taylor did not get as much of the ball in the second half but still had good games overall. Stephens was always dangerous. Roberts is pretty solid. I think he can handle a midfield role at senior level. Time will tell. I thought Melican and McLean were better in the second half. Reid and Armetey were great in the air. Warner flashed in and out of the play. Rankin was also useful.

McInerney, Warner and Wicks were there. Others may have also been there, but missed by me. I think its a harsh call to say the whole seniors should have been there.
