It is a joke that Campbell was sitting on the bench as sub. Must play next week.
I disagree. Peter has shown he has potential a few times this year. He did allow the situation to get to him and had a (very) poor day out. The whole team did - so a bit unfair to single him out here - but I will anyway.

He would’ve wanted to put up a good effort against his old team, but let his ambitions get ahead of his ability. When your strengths are limited, you’ve got to focus on them and build - I think he will get better.

Was outplayed by Finlayson all day - which was hard to watch. 2 rejects going at it. He didn’t deal with this well and lost his $&@! a few times. Unforgivable (and costly). He will likely serve a suspension anyway?

But I doubt if Sinkers is the answer. He wasn’t in previous years and now getting on in years. This would be a backwards step, and I’d be gobsmacked if it happened.

As for Ollie, I’m not sure what role he’s meant to be playing? Whatever it is, it’s not working. What does Stephens need to do? (Apart from learning how to kick?)

Agree here. Warner gets caught holding the ball more than others because his first instinct is to hold the ball in one arm and then attempt to push off with his other one. More often than not he gets caught and most of the time he's had no prior but as soon as you attempt to push off with one arm the umpire will always pay HTB. I think at times he should just take the tacke and get another stoppage to reset but it's a difficult one as we love our players to take the game on if they can so it's probably something he needs to learn, when to take it on and when to hold it up.

Hopefully as he gets a bit older and stronger he'll break more of them too!

Heeney was excellent, Parker and Mills were okay, the rest were somewhere between below par and awful. That says our problem goes a lot deeper than a selection issue. We are capable of putting together 20 or 30 minutes of scintillating football in otherwise ordinary or lethargic performances. We have a high quality experienced coaching staff that doesn't seem to know how to get the group to play to its capabilities for more than short bursts of time. I'm really at a loss to know where we go from here.

Who knows what team will show up next week? And if it's the one we like, will they return the week after?

Whatever Heeney did the past 2 weeks, the rest should be doing the same. He seems to be the only one who has solved the puzzle.

To John Longmire: Do Something! I don't know what it is, but figure it out and Do Something!

For a head coach who has always wanted consistency over all, he is failing.

He made things happen alright - a heap of turnovers and butchered opportunities. Don't get me wrong - I rate him very highly but he stunk it up this week. If you can't admit that then you really do have blinkers on. The Player Ratings data showed very clearly what was blindingly obvious to any objective observer.
My opinion is objective truth in its purest form

St Kilda came of the bye and lost to Brisbane in a tough encounter, then came off a 6 day break. Their team, but for a few, looked jaded and tired. You could make concessions for StKilda.

We come off a bye and play very poorly. Our side, apart from a few, looked jaded and tired.

For a whole side to collectively play poorly must have something to do with their preparation. Did they give them too much time off, did players have too many beers or not continue to train away from the club as instructed. We were sharp for 15 minutes then we were run off our feet. After half time we were having an afternoon siesta.

We had 78 less possessions and that is a telling statistic and they were down to 21 players. We just didn't make it to contests.

Our only chance to stay in the 8 is for that display to be the last of its type for the season. We must win at least another 5 games and all of a sudden our remaining draw is very tough.

As ugly as this game was, I started watching it again. Missed tackles by Wicks, Cor and others lead to goals. These were all tackles on a player from a standing start who pushed them off too easily. RB, who normally tackles well got suckered into falling into Rozee’s back - oldest trick in the book. Another goal.

Then there’s Ladham’s 2 goals from sheer stupidity.

Another couple from Lloyd’s poor kicking.

6 or 7 goals that are inexcusable, really.

My next whine is when we just lose intensity for periods and teams get run ons and pretty much bang-bang-bang 6 goals in 10 minutes.

Happens in most games. We generally fight back, but obviously can’t rely on fight-backs in every game.

Yesterday, 4 goals in last 10 minutes of Q1 & 6 or so straight at start of Q3. Game over.

Apart from a bit more mongrel around the stoppages, how do we fix this?

If you think carrying out an ongoing vindictive and malicious attack on a player who has just turned 21 is just a twist then what exactly what type of comment would cause you to draw the line and say that’s enough ?
It’s got so bad that others are focusing on finding fault and pulling down his favoured player as part of the process to defend James. So now we have supporters looking for fault in another of our future stars just to respond to the ludicrous unbalanced comments that he makes.
He single-handedly was the cause of a new thread where his vicious diatribes could be quarantined , rather than the usual practice of a stand-alone thread to discuss players in a positive or supportive way.
He has previously caused others to leave the forum and I for one now tend to spend less time on here because no matter how hard you choose to try and ignore his comments and thoughts he is somehow able to push enough button’s with others to derail most threads with his juvenile insults. Insults that he has said over and over again that he was going to stop inserting into every thread but unfortunately it seems like the lure of attention over-rides the option of responding maturely and staying on subject.
I seem to recall seeing yesterday him stating that the rest of the players didn’t like James and felt he was overrated or something similar.
I know you can ignore him and god knows I try but he is so successful at trolling that you get multiple responses quoting him and so the original thread subject once again gets hijacked.
I don’t want to sound to dramatic but it’s bullying and should not be considered acceptable or dismissed as something to not be taken seriously. If it was happening on social media he would be called out and possibly blocked or suspended .
Or imagine turning up to Swans training and calling out the rubbish he does I don’t think it would be looked on as just a passionate supporter with a twist giving his feedback
The only upside is that James is probably not even aware of this nasty malicious attention seeking hack masquerading as a supporter.

I agree. I keep thinking about the many times we have periods where we simply get smashed and teams get run-ons (this is not a new thing, either, it’s been happening for years).

It’s got to be a mindset thing, and the coaches/selectors are to blame when it becomes more than a thing that happens now & then.

We need to be able to adjust quickly to a tighter, more defensive pattern once the bleeding starts.

2 things we could look at (from my simpleton perspective):

                          1. conceding scores from stoppages. What was once our strength has become a major weakness. We’d be in the bottom quartile for this stat, I’m sure.

                          2. When it comes to 1 on 1, we’re also terrible. A few of our players will win these battles every time, but overall we’re a rabble.

Unfortunately, that is not entirely the case..

But thank you Faunac8, an excellent and eloquent summation of an issue that can now hopefully be put to bed once and for all. And we can return to discussing... you know, the actual footy!! The types of performances we are getting are consistent with a young, talented team. Until we get a bit bigger, more experienced and fitter we will see inconsistency.

We are on the right track, just need to be patient.
