Got to expect some injuries. He was brought to the club for depth so reckon he needs some versatility. As I said in my initial post, hope I'm wrong about him.

Would be a huge mistake to make any sort of play for De Koning. He's no good. Struggling in a struggling Carlton team at the moment. A hard pass especially at the ridiculous money being thrown around for him.

He might turn into a half decent player in 3-4 years but we can't wait that long.

Please. please, please don't be entertaining any thought about TDK, I've been watching him a bit lately, he's an ordinary soft footballer, would add zero to us.

This is what a Carlton supporter wrote tonight "TDK: No impact around the ground. The only 2 times he actually took a mark he gave away free kicks. Constantly gets in the way of more competent teammates. For a bloke with 7 (!!) Years on the list he has an astounding lack of game sense"

Surely the early season talk in the media was just made up?

How come those RWOers that use that epithet, never say what they mean by the term "true supporter"?

They say such and such isn't a true supporter, they say a particular action or opinion isn't that of a true supporter - but the term it's always defined in the negative.
It's like defining a cow, as "not a cat" - it's accurate, but pretty meaningless.

I'm not trying to be nasty about it, but as you've used the phrase caj23, how about you tell us what you think a "true supporter" actually is?

I think you missed my point, I was being facetious, certain posters froth at the mouth if anyone dares to criticise our coach and spout that exact line but they’re happy to pot individual players.

My post was simply pointing out their hypocrisy

As a serious response to your initial comment, I actually think he’s been ok.

He’s not a lockdown defender, he’s playing that role because of our current injury list. I think he could play the P McCartin intercept defender quite well.

Agree to an extent he looks laconic on the field and has some areas of improvement but I think we’ve got something to work with

Francis has been thrown into a makeshift backline, and he’s been ok- I don’t think we have anyone better at this stage.
As supporters we can criticise everyone in the team including the coaches, as this is a forum, and there’s no need to accuse any poster of disloyalty for doing so- only don’t ride it to death as some tend to do!????

I could indeed have missed your point caj23. And I wasn't being a smarty, and didn't mean to single you out, I could have clicked reply on a "You can’t call yourself a supporter" post that appeared recently in another thread - and asked the same question.

I suspect most clubs don’t just throw out certain players and promote others just because the 2023 season top8 is pretty much gone.

I can’t recall many times the Swans have done this????

I would be amazed if this is our strategy?

I all the talk about dumping certain players right now I don’t think will happen in practice.

As a coaching group u always want to win and find great matchups that help u win and secondary is brining in players that u want to accelerate development.

There are so many layers to take into account for the rest of the season and how we will appproach it.

Injuries to 6 or 7 players that could arguably be in our best 22 has had a massive impact and has exposed our game plan flexibility as well as match ups on game day.

This cycle for the swans has made it bloody hard to watch some games but that is a bi product of this adverse chapter we are stuck in still.

Promoting a little more game to certain players we hope will feature in 2024 but NOT at the expense of loosing the game will in my opinion be the road to managing 2023 that our coaching department will adopt.

Throwing in players not quite ready does NOT necessarily equate to better development for that up and coming player. In fact the opposite sometimes. There is such a fine balance in helping develop players and if every junior could be just thrown into the deep end of the pool and crush it …….well that would be a miracle.

Kicking 1.5 as a new footballer to Snrs doesn’t always weave in confidence on the big stage nor having 4.1 kicked on u either in defence.

Nor does being a slow inside mid and not having a good match that weakens the rest of our mid rotation match ups. If I was a super quick mid I would love to play on Parker or Sheldrick and burn them.

I think as always players will get game time when they are either deserving of making the best 22 and or they have a superior match up that we can use to expose the opposition.

Playing week in week our full snr games is brutal for a new player to AFL level and is always managed and rarely a straight line.

How can these two sentences be talking about the same player?????????

De Koning has played seven games for the Blues in 2023, averaging 11 disposals, 2.6 clearances and 17.4 hit-outs per game – he has kicked two goals.

McClure has previously reported that Sydney is the team presenting the largest offer to De Koning, with an eight-year deal north of $800,000 per season on the table.

Surely we aren't thinking of this, let alone the draft capital in a very strong draft to get a deal done. We've brought in no one of note for a decade, please don't let this be our entry back into trading!

Tom De Koning was drafted with pick 30 in 2017. Tom De Koning (footywire.com)

                              Games: 2018:2, 2019:none, 2020:7, 2021:13, 2022:19, 2023:8. Total:49. Tom De Koning (afltables.com) Carlton has played 118 games in that time.

Is he really worth $800K? IMO, no.

Can be a good player but not worth that kind of money plus what would Carlton want for him? If we’re going to trade, we should go for top tier only. But if a middle tier player wants to come, and that’s where I rate him right now, then a more realistic salary package would be good value.
