People on here are talking about the need to keep HHK and several other reserves players who have never played seniors. Stephens is light years ahead of them.
Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.

They play entirely different positions. Stephens is a mid/winger. Hugo is mainly forward but sometimes wing. He has been very good in the reserves.

No matter what happens Stephens is gone anyway I believe. I would be quite happy if he stayed and worked on his kicking. But my info is Crows are keen. Gettable has up to 5 clubs sniffing around

Stephens is not that far off it imo. His disposal needs improvement, but his tank and ability to find it is pretty solid.

I'd actually like to keep him, but don't know if we will if he has trade currency that helps us fill a gap on our list.

I don't share your pessimism about him. That's okay. He's young and has plenty of upside.

Stephens looked established last year and played well in the first 2 finals IIRC. Disappointing that he has dropped off and it looks like it's his last year. Campbell and Roberts have gone past him it seems. Does lack intensity and a physical presence.

I dont have pessimism about him at all, i just know out of contract players that arent playing dont get a big return, especially when the club in question can walk him to the PSD

I think he can play but has a few in front of him

The issue is that he is out of contract and still has some cachet (as a player) to other clubs. He has players ahead of him at the Swans and they are young (as young or younger than him, in the main) so it's not just a case of hanging around until they retire.

I doubt the club would just delist him. They'd probably be happy to give him another contract. But if he has other clubs making him offers and "promises" of regular senior football he'd be daft not to seriously consider them. And if he plumps for North, they can just walk him into the PSD and we'd get nothing.

I find this an interesting comparison Dylan Stephens and Oliver Florent AFL Stats Comparison and one that should at least be considered when discussing his future.

No time to experiment while we are in the race for finals and have won 4 games on the trot.

                            So true Waswan

I we tend to have short memories regarding some our talented players and their early years transitioning into a squad AFL games.

Florent was a bit on the nose of a fair few supporters at one stage who felt he should have advanced faster.

Look at him now in the backline vs wing

                            Loves it !!!!

Still not convinced by Francis, in recent weeks we've a bit of evidance that he can fulfill an intercept defender role - I've seen less that he can lock down on an opponent.
