I must say the thought of Patch Adams playing at the Swans in 2024 just makes a lot of sense

    Just turned 30 late sept

    2024 - 30yrs old
    2025 - 31yrs old
    2026 - 32yrs old

    Age not a problem

    Experience a massive tick

    A very good player

His input output around the ball is exactly the style of player we need to solve part of our problems with contested footy.

He fits what we we need in a finals series trench warfare of which we lack right now

If we are looking at signing wicks for $300k or so pa vs Patch Adams for $450k pa over 3 years they are chalk and cheese and Taylor is a serious upgrade for not much difference.

Patch also plays inside mid as well as run with HFF / pocket

He is not a road block. If roberts or sheldrick can go past him in 2024 in ability they will be picked.

    It’s a tick for me

Grundy, Adams, Jordon and maybe Dow is the type of sweeping changes that Geelong and pies and Brisbane have made to be in the top4

These 4 would have significant impact and not stuff up our next round of contracts 24/25

This would be a serious trajectory changer for us competing at the highest level in our 2024/25 window

Less than this we will be there about the top8
Can not agree ! Any player over 30 is a massive risk, there risk of injury increase and just
Look at Parker or Joey Kennedy there form can drop right off very very quickly

      I hear you
Though just turning 30 a couple weeks ago and being 30 all of next season is a lot different to 34yrs of age

Issac smith moved at 32yrs of age from the hawks to the cats successfully

He would also play more than Mills in 2023

No mills for 6 to 12 games minimum is a serious weakening of our team in experience and role

We need to replace that minimum in our window like for like…….:but as suggested wicks for Patch and a difference in $150k pa or so is light years apart

Adams played half his game in Wicks role and half inside mid last season or two

In the past four to five years, he's had repeat groin, mild and major hamstring, adductor, and knee injuries. That's a lot of wear and tear, and my point of concern. A fit 30 year old Taylor Adams with no real signs of degeneration, I'm all in. But that's not on offer here.

Just watched short video put together for Taylor's 200th game. He is a bit of a character, reminding me a bit of Paps. Seems like he would fill the role that we have planned for Sheldrick. This might be good for easing Sheldrick into AFL footy intensity but it would no doubt limit his opportunities for game time. Having Taylor might however allow for Paps to go back to the forward line and cause mayhem there complementing the talls with Parks perhaps, and also releasing Heeney to rip it up elsewhere. So many possibilities!!

Or in light of information from Auntie G, Taylor and Paps could form a more formidable mid/forward rotation than we have now.

Rojo. I don't think Sheldrick needs to be eased into AFL. He showed in 2023 that he has arrived. Pity he got injured at the time he did.

+1. I see the need and rate the player, but it just feels like there should be better options out there. Not that I could tell you who they are...

Luddy……my take on us needing to move into a defensive plus 1 more than we would have preferred was not just because our backline was vulnerable……but equally we have lacked the ability to control the contested ball in the CBs and or ball ups.

None of us know for sure……..and u could equally argue that we appear to flood forward from a stacked backline as good as any team in the comp…….so stacking and slingshotting shapes up well for us.

I am taking a guess that Liz’s comments were also observations from the SCG where we tend to peel off and stack our backline on this small ground quite obviously.

It must be very tricky for teams exiting at pace from the middle and not many options due to the congestion in the arc.

No doubt we need an adjustment in our backline ie an additional KPD would be helpful but I would also suggest we are needing to sure up the ruck and inside players at a higher weighting of $ and justifiably.

Swans set to land premiership defender as unrestricted free agent

Seems like we've landed Hamling. We needed a replacement for the "fourth club" spot on the list.

The Geelong analogy is a good one and is plausibly what we're trying to emulate here. We clearly are aiming for a premiership next year. We have cap space and are trying to build depth in areas of need with seasoned players. I'm happy to trust them on this.

Ready made mature body for 2 years while young bodies like Sheldrick (just turned 20) and Roberts mature. Also, Rowbottom, Warner etc still getting stronger but not mature yet. May stll be media fantasy.

The 1.5 games we get out of him next year had better be pretty good

Probably only paying him peanuts. Should have the locker next to Sam Reid. Might get half a season from each.

Or Melican - who we know has a spot on the list next year. Just have to hope they can stagger their injury outages.

I saw a picture of Jordon (on the SEN site) wearing guernsey number 23. I wonder if he'll get to keep his number, or if protocol requires the club to "retire" the number for a year or two.

We have Jordan & apparently Hamling. now if we can push the Grundy & Adams deals over the line we would be having a spectacular trade & Free Agent period
