Round 11: Sydney Swans Reserves v Queanbeyan Tigers

The rain fell intermittently throughout the whole game - it never got too heavy but the winds at times caused havoc with some of the kicks holding up or blowing over the onrushing pack. The Tigers surprisingly led by 1 point at quarter time, but all their goals were due to mistakes from our players - 2 turnovers in defence and 1 mix up between the defenders not handling a long ball well. The Swans finally established a solid lead to build upon their domination of the football in the 2nd qua...

Round 3: Sydney Swans Reserves v Belconnen Magpies

Tired, cranky but a busy day tomorrow so I'll jot down a quick summary and a few notes of the players involved. Belconnen struggled to clear their defensive zone for most of the day, with most of their forays into their attacking half, hopeful half-blind kicks where the Swans' defence would tidy up with little trouble. While they didn't lose the first quarter this week, they were still quite profligate going inside 50 and only had 4 goals on the board at quarter time. The rain was quite heavy...

Sydney Swans Reserves v GWS Giants

GWS did start very strong and while the Swans missed their shots, I thought the Giants were good value for their 4 goals. They moved the ball well through the midfield and capitalised on some sloppy Swans defence. The Swans on the other hand were haphazard by foot going into forward line, preferring to bomb long into the tall timber down there rather than spot up open players. Playfair must have reiterated to the players to stick to their structures during the break as from then on it was all ...

Sydney Swans Reserves v East Coast Eagles 19th March

A big win, a solid performance but I think the coaches will be more than a little disappointed that the Eagles could not replicate their performance from the corresponding match last year. The Swans dominated possession and field position, starting from the utter dominance of the ruck division, feeding both our inside and outside midfielders who gave good clean ball to a very potent (and tall) forward line. The Eagles struggled to get the ball out of the their own half for much fo the game....

RESERVES REPORT - Swans v Eastlake

Sorry for delay and lack of the inspired reporting you are usually spoilt with. ORB didn't make the game and he is the principle player, I am just backup, and not very good one either. It was a relatively high scoring game with Belconnen taking the cudos for accuracy at 14.4.88, but Swans winning at 16.8.104. A better showing than last week with a lot more intensity right from the beginning. Frosty is making his presence felt as coach. . MikePyke has improved a great deal, especial...

Reserves Report Rnd 3 - Sydney V Ainslie

    By Primmie and ORB.
Photos by ScottH The first quarter was a fairly lacklustre affair. The midfield domination seen in the first couple of home matches was not there - not surprising given that the team has lost its gun inside midfielder to the ones, nor are they likely to get him back! Lack of pressure from the Swans mids was also allowing Ainslie to pass the ball into their forward line with some precision. Poor goal kicking early on was also a problem, and as usual the main culprit was...

Reserves Report ? Practice Match versus East Coat Eagles
    By Old Royboy and Primmy
The Swans reserves struggled to record a 40 point win against a surprisingly competitive East Coast Eagles side in breezy conditions. Long term reserves watchers were pleased to see how much the standard of local Sydney footy has improved since the Swans were last in that competition. Missing from the starting line-up were TDL, Meredith, Sumner, Lewis J, Thornton and Orreal. The first notes for the yea...
