Sam Reid is a "natural" backman - he reads that position so well, he is a unit (or he will be once he grows into those shoulders) and he is safe (its an early call, but think Dunks if he could kick). I would not want to shift him about too much, not unless there was no option. And there is.

Lewis Johnston. Campbell Heath. These blokes are tall, have good hands, and LJ in particular can read the flight of a ball.

And we keep White. He may not get to kick that many goals or be crash hot at taking marks when he isn't on song, but he can skittle a path for those of our mob who are smaller and who can kick. He reads the play well for his teammates, and he is a natural "protector". It may not be a classic role, but it could be a pointedly important one in the future.

I suspect the coaches will be working on Pykey with a view to producing another KPP. If he catches on as quickly as he has everything else so far, we will be in clover.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Pyke takes a lot of contested marks and that is what is desperately needed. After the progress he has made so far I don't thnk anything is beyond him.

Also, those that doubt Bradshaws worth should take note of how many contested marks he takes. Contested marks in the forward lines win matches, big matches!

Sherman would add considerably to our side at present.

Sherman's weakness is his disposal so I'm not sure how he would fit in with that philosophy

            Please no, Anthony is useless.

Latest rumours on BF have Sherman committed to Swans and Vez going to Bombers for Houli.

I like Sherman a lot, but I'll be honest- if the club looks at Patty and says "that's not what we need right now" but looks at Justin and says "yes, that's just what we need right now" I'll be a tad confused.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Can't see why the Swans would have particular interest in Houli, nor really Houli in the Swans if he wants to play regular senior footy. He seems like a decent enough player, but without any attributes that we're clearly lacking. Who would he puish out of our current "best 22"? What would he add to the team that is different from, say, Meredith (who Stuey gushed about last week)?

Watching the start of the third quarter of the GF with Riewoldt marking and giving out a perfect handpass to Schneider who swinging onto his natural left boot missed a goal that most players playing AFL could have nailed. It was a GF and a goal was desperately needed. At that moment,I knew we did the right thing moving him on.

They won't be prioritising a KPP but are after a mid. Sounds like Houli and Sherman are on the radar. I prefer Houli. Doubtful about Sherman's disposal.

Of course he's completely useless, he only did lead collingwood's goal kicking last year with 50 but nup absolute spud

If he is so good why isn't Malthouse playing him ?? He obviously rates Dawes ahead of him and IMO White is better than Dawes so why would we want Anthony?

I'm not sure most would have nailed. it was 45m out directly in front but if you are going to win you need to kick those. It came on top of the missed set shot on 1/2 time which missed by some distance. And it brought back more than a few memories of him missing those (in fact roos in the herald-sun said "unfortunately his kicking woes in grand finals continued) running into goals.

But like nick davis in the semi my memories of the 2005 pf were of him kicking goals in the last quarter and changing what seemed to be all the momentum with the saints into us being in a gf...he will always have a soft spot in my heart as a result.

12 months is a long time in football, this time last year Jason Akermanis lead the goalkicking fo the Bulldogs.

Anthony averaged 2 goals a game last year, this year he has kicked 5 goals in 7 AFL games. In addition he has played 12 games for Collingwood in the VFL and kicked 14 goals.

So how about a big no to John Anthony and how about we develop our own forwards like JW & LJ.

I think Dawes is harder at ground level than Anthony who is more an aerialist, marking above his head. Having said that Dawes hardly took the game on in a winning side,he played serviceably. I do like Anthony's cleanness.ie the lead, mark, goal. ala 1980's style.
Today we have so much emphasis on defensive forwards we sometimes forget that forwards are there to kick goals. If we can get him cheap then why not? He could back up injuries to key forwards when needed and kick a bag in Canberra as well. The Swans could also teach him to be harder at the contest.
