GWS are now well & truly in the race to get Tippett. They have said they are talking to his management and are interested in drafting him. I think it won't make any difference, he wants to come to Sydney because he wants to play in a Premiership. He doesn't want to wait 5 years or retire without one. I think after talking with him they may just give up on drafting him. There isc nothing worse than a player who doesn't want to be at your club. He will not play to the best of his ability, look at his last two years in Adelaide. He is a far better footballer than he showed there. If GWS insist on drafting him and he doesn't want to be there he may not play up to par. I am not saying he will deliberately play badly, what I am saying is unhappy players don't play well.
Tippett!!

Swans have to be sure they'll get him in the PSD before they leave a spot for him. (Unless they have a plan B if he goes to another club) We don't want to be playing one short plus be below our 92% minimum TPPThose who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.Comment

Doh, of course ... I forgot about that. Thanks.CIA Agent to Policeman: "Have you ever had anti-terrorist training?"

I think we can play around with the veterans included or excluded, which I believe allows for a portion (50%?) not included in the cap if on the list. We have Goodes, Bolton, ROK and LRT as vets, so plenty to work with there. So if we get KT, they could possibly all go on the vets list, otherwise, some or all can be excluded to make the 92% minimum. I think Liz knows about this stuff, so the correct details will be forthcoming.Comment

Swans can take 5 ND picks plus elevate Cunningham, making 38, which is the minimum. Tippett would be 39. So should be okay.

40 + 7 rookies
39 + 8 rookies
38 + 9 rookies
You can name as many veterans as you like now, they have no bearing on the size of the senior list, only the salary cap. Each veteran named can have $112k of their salaries excluded from the cap.Comment

I'm not suggesting that but a player cannot be told by a club to go there if he doesn't want to, that is a part of the AFL & Players Association Agreement. It is also restraint of trade and I don't think the AFL want to go down that road as the NRL did and look what happened there. The Draft is illegal in reality but the clubs have agreed to not challenge it in the Federal Court. I don't think any club will draft a player who doesn't want to be there. I'm sure we have talked to players pre draft and have been told "I won't go to Sydney". How about the Nathan Buckley agreement with the Bears. If Tippett's agreement with Crows is breaking the rules then so was that. Buckley agreed to play one year for the Bears on the condition they clear him to the club of his choice the next year.Comment

Swans have no chance of getting tippett if he heads for the drafts. GWS or GC or Brisbane will take him. Mad if they dont.
Especially if its in the PSD, which is basically a pick of little worth. Take him there, trade him to Swans next year for a nice juicey national draft pick or two.
I'm sure Tippett would agree to that "side deal"Comment

I would have thought there would be a far better chance of him lasting through to us in the ND rather than the PSD. GWS would have to be the only other club that would give up an early pick in a draft that supposedly runs deep and I have very serious doubts that they are truly interested in him. I would have thought this would avoid any legal issues or challenges against the AFL also.Comment

Surely if he still wants us and we still want him, he will nominate for the ND and we would take him with our first pick.

I'd very very surprised if we get him now. Only thing will be salary cap issues.
GC or Brisbane really really need a key forward like KT and he won't have huge issues going home. I can't see GWS not having him on their radar (draft 4 young guns and KT before us). GWS have cash to burn as no-one took their top three draft pick bait so they desperately need a "franchise player" (hate that term).
Given the wrap over the knuckles KT will get I think he'll happilly bank his $1M a year rather than challenge the draft just so he can play for us
Love the idea of our same 22 lining up to defend our title and happen to believe we will be very hard to knock over.
Keep our powder (and salary cap) dry for the next trading period. Can honestly see the likes of Parker and even Mitchell developing as out and out stars next year. Love to see Jude have on more year for the team....Comment

I'm nearly over this Tippett thing, if we get him we do, if we don't that's fine too.
I'm happy if we get him because he can really play just needs to find consistency. Will take pressure off the developing Reid as well because Tippett will definitely draw the number one opposition tall defender.
Don't care now if we don't get him because I'm worried about the big $ and that he may not perform as expected or get terminal concussion.
Don't know what to make of GWS, think it may just be hot air but if they genuinely want him then there's nothing we can do to prevent that. He may not be good however for them as a player or for their salary cap in 2014 and 2015 when their host of young guns want lots more money and their cap is reducing.
By bet is GCS or Brisbane where Tippett would be happy because it's home and both would appear keen on him and can get him readily through the drafts before us.
I'm therefore looking forward to a host of new recruits via the ND and an end to chronic injuries to our potential new stars.Comment
