GWS saying they are still interested "depending on the terms" that Tippett nominates, that means salary for each year and number of years.
Still not sure if they are only doing this to keep in the press or whether they are seriously thinking of taking him. I've always thought it was just for the publicity but suppose we'll find out on Dec 11.
I notice the Swans made a short concise statement and state they will make no further comment prior to the PSD.
Not sure if any other clubs are thinking about it, heard a rumour elsewhere that Freo could be a possibility too.Comment

You say dickhead, yet "Swans maintain Tippett commitment"
What does that imply about the Swans?
Always thought Tippett would find it hard to try it on that he was innocent and oblivious to it all.
He did what anyone in his position would do and plead innocence.
I'm sure he thought being able to fall back on the whole "it was all Adelaide's fault" would give him a bit of grace, but not to be.
IMO he always knew that the Crows were doing the wrong thing and pretended he didn't.
Money talks.
Getting back to the 'dickhead' thing.
Hall, Plugger, Dermie, blah blah blah.
I see Swans supporters who actually believe this 'ethos' as sheep.
Sounds nice, but in real life we've probably drafted more perceived dickheads than most other clubs over the years.
So to have pride in your team, its history and its culture makes you a sheep? Strangely, our culture seems to be the envy of most other teams, and its a culture that doesn't pander to individuals. As demonstrated in the Grand Final a champion team will beat a team of champions. I think Tippett may be more suited to tennis. It's very hard to live in a studio apartment in San Jose with a man who's learning to play violin. That's what she told the police when she handed them the empty revolver.

Re: Tippett?
Hall, Plugger and Dermie were all recruited pre the no dickhead policy, and the Bloods culture was invoked after their recruitment as well. Moreover the recruitment of Plugger and Dermie took place during completely different circumstances.

You're crazy Al.
The balloons that I put up on top of my desk at work when we beat Collingwood are still pumped up like the day I put them up.
Someone asked me when I'm taking them down... I said after we win back to backs!!
Being a card carrying member of the swans (x2); I think that my money would be better spent elsewhere. Why pay him $3.5 mil to miss 22 games? (Yes, 22 games; not 11. I know we don't care about the Ansett cup - the AFL obviously do.)
IF (please notice the big IF) we get him, we won't be eligible to play ANYWHERE until half way through the season (would have to kick an awful lot from there to get the 100 goals that I expect).
Then he'll have to spend some time in the ressies getting himself match ready (I wouldn't expect less), and THEN he'll have to fight his way into the team...
My opinion.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.Comment

I am not defending Tippett because he is likely to be a Swan, but I think he really copped it bad. It means that any player not intellectual enough to understand contract law, cannot rely on any professional agent to act on his behalf. The player must, regardless of his intellect, and let's face it, footballers are not the most cleaver animals on the planet, fully comprehend every legal matter they are a party to. I think this is ridiculous.
It's not fully clear, but I think Tippett pleaded guilty. Why did he need a high priced lawyer to do that? This is the harshest sentence that I can recall ever handed down for this type of infraction. The other guys got off likely; friends of Vlad.
If we do get Tippett, it's probably not all that bad that he misses half the season as we need to test the likes of Walsh and White, if they are to have any future in AFL after 2013, let alone at the Swans. Obviously, the setup will change once Tippett comes into the side and opportunities will dry up.
If we or GWS get him and pay his salary demand, then there is no point in him taking this matter further. But if he loses out somewhere, I would take to the Grievance committee, and even to court, if I were him. The flip side is that he's been overpaid for a couple of years now and will continue to be overpaid (probably) well into the future, so why should he bother.
You can get caught twice taking drugs and not cop any sanction, cause harm to another player on the field and get off lightly, but if you don't understand all the nuances of what is meant by draft tampering you could see your career come to an end. When this thread first started, even Liz didn't see how Tippet's get out clause constituted draft tampering, so what on Earth can we expect some buffhead player to understand?Comment

Again a bit slap for the AFL, poor Kurt seems to have borne most of the penalty. Adelaide $300k Tippett $50k
Trigg penalty v Tippett Trigg will be back before Tippett. Seems unfair. Carlton a lot harsher penalties seems like some favouritism going on. What would have hapened if he picked Suns or GWS bet he would not have got 11 weeks.
Probably he would have got a slpaover the knuckles. AFC must be laughing all the way home. Remind me never to hire Galbally if I get into trouble.Comment

The AFL statement says:
Kurt Tippett is:
8. Suspended from participating in the pre-season competition 2013 and for 22 home and away matches of AFL football in the 2013 premiership season on the basis that the final 11 home and away matches of the suspension are suspended for a period of five years
It doesn't say anything about reserves games. Can we assume that he can play in the ressies based on this statement?Comment

I guess KT will read the fine print of his contracts from now on and NOT rely on other people telling him what they could do for him. Don't forget that this all started some years ago when he was much much younger and wet behind the ears, and if he is anything like me its "details, mere details - you know more about this stuff, I am paying you to anyway, so you deal with it". I've come unstuck too by not really understanding what the bottom line actually meant; so did all those people in the USA who got caught with the Prime thingy. They were told it was all ok, so....
Anyway that's my take on it. Not everyone is quick between the ears when it comes to legalities. I am ready to give him the benefit of the doubt. I think. Well at 10.03pm this evening I am. May change my mind in the morning.
And, he is suspended from the AFL, not the ressies. He could play in the NEAFL but not be upped to an AFL game if required. (It would be hillarious watching him go around against say Belconnen). If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhoodComment

I'm not a huge Tippett fan, and don't think he's worth anywhere near what is being touted...but....
He has been savaged by the AFL ,who don't want to bring another Adelaide team to it's knees....no doubt in my mind, he's the fall guy.
As any 22 year old should, he trusted his manager and employer to set is deal.
I'm assuming he didn't set up the deal, or the clandestine way Adelaide have behaved, yet he receives the harshest penalty.
IMO this has been a disgracefully cynical performance by the AFL.
I genuinely feel for Kurt.
Let's just hope he'll have a medallion around his neck come September after helping the Swans go Back to Back.Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTComment

If we had come any place other than first last year no one would care he was playing for us; his sentence mightn't have been as tough.Comment
