Did anyone see the curtain raiser game before the GF?

Just a thought, would we pick Rioli, the cousin of the great, instead of Dunkley?

His skills were magically, especially the goal where he intercepted a handpass from the opposition and one step kick a goal.

We need talent, not just time servers or depth players.

Which is why we need to be carefully trading for ruckmen.

Will they really be so much better than what we have??. If not, no thank you.

However players like Rioli can win us games, whereas the 99% of ruckmen can't.

The Hawks did not have the best ruckmen in the competition but they won again against the best rucking combination going around.

The figures remind me of Jason Saddington - pretty decent player but never able to add the weight he needed to do what he wanted. Watts seems to me like another of the same physique.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I suppose he'd provide the 1-2 goals a game we lose with Goodes retiring and probably a few laughs. I'd rather see a youngster doing it though. I'd rather him than Watts.

We absolutely need a player like him in our side. Someone who can crumb and create goals with great skill. With our tall forwards a player like Rioli is a must.

Not quite sure how you added up that Freo would only need a second round pick??

Freo are putting all their eggs in getting GWS Cam McCarthy, as a tall forward option.

Gold Coast wants a least a one first round pick, given that Bennell was a No 2 pick, 2010 draft.

GWS will also want a least one first round pick since McCarthy was pick 14 in the 2013 draft.

After much interest in Bennell, there maybe not a lot of solid bidding for him.

If we get a first round pick for Jetta, this could open things up nicely.

Bird and one first round pick for Bennell, one first round pick and every thing else goes to getting Mills.

Talia a second or third round pick, since the Doggies want him out ASAP.

Dunkley a skip, as Bennell as had five years in the system and at 22, just hitting his absolute prime.

This is shaping as an interesting trade period!!

He is a high draft but his value has done significantlly even richmond don't want him and they took in Cousins, North is the only other club looking at him other than Freo he either goes west for a second round pick or GCS get nothing and he ends up playing local footy. There has been suggestion that hawks might look at him but thats unlikely (I hope).

If freo can't get McCarthy they'll go after him. He still doesn't have a permanent spot in the team, plus he's won a flag now he wants to make money.

I hope we go nowhere near Bennell, we do not need his issues, I would have though the Hawks could be a potential destination if only because I reckon Clarko and the Hawks culture could sort him out

I would think that the only money we have spare will be the Jetta money (approx. $450K per season) and whatever Bird and Robbo are on (assuming they are traded which would be about $300K I'd reckon.

So really we have enough for one decent recruit with AFL experience and one for the future - I would think Schoenmaker would demand good money and our priority will be in a ruckman. Talia or a profile or similar profile would be all we could afford.

The Buddy deal is really starting to look like a stinker isn't it?

Agreed, the only club I could see that want him might be a Brisbane whereby they offer him an additional year as part of the deal to get him on their coaching staff, apparently he very very switched on and widely regarded as a top senior coach in the making
