Whoops is this a trade thread?

I hope we can get the Jetta deal done early as that will have bearing on everything else that we do.

If we get WCE first rounder which is 17/18, we can the do something with it or pick 14 like trading in a required player or trading it for two late 20s picks which gives us more points for Mills.

Or if we get a player for Jetta, it will be Sinclair/Lycett or one of their third/fourth string KPD who have done so well this year but will be displaced by the first choice KPDs returning from LTI.

Either of those options for Jetta allows us to attack the rest of the trade period with more focus. FA are also the way to go as they don't cost us the picks we need for Mills and Dunkley. Can people bear that in mind when suggesting we get Zac Smith or other contracted players, we don't have the currency to get the deal done.

An alternative scenario, for debate more than a strongly held view.

If the Cats need its draft picks to get Danger, that leaves Henderson stranded potentially. Should we take WC's first round for Jetta and offer it or 14 for Henderson as a key defender.

If we do so, we clearly need to bump up our second round picks via trading Bird or some other scenario to get extra second rounders to cover the Mills bid.

              Anyway, views on Henderson/the scenarios...

It used to be that clubs would know fairly well in advance (via gentleman's agreements etc) how trading and drafts would happen, to a reasonably accurate degree. This seems to be changing from what I hear, much more cutthroat. Progress I suppose.

But that brings me to your question, we have to be very careful during trade (however long the sponsors want it to be this year) to keep the correct Mills currency up our sleeves. For that, it would be nice to be confident on what bids may come for him. I'm not sure this information is as easy to come by as it may have been in the past.

Having said that, let's discuss your idea and add to it with careless abandon! This is trade talk after all.... Henderson I would love, and would very much entertain the idea of a Jetta 'straight swap'.

Let's add to that, with a 3 way trade idea:

                West Coast
                Give: Sinclair, Pick 18ish
                Get: Jetta, 2nd & 3rd pick upgrade

                Carlton
                Give: Henderson
                Get: Pick 18ish

                Sydney:
                Give: Jetta, 2nd & 3rd pick downgrade
                Get: Sinclair, Henderson

                Is this realistic? Probs not.
Does it cost us Mills currency? Probs yeah.

I think we'll get Talia pretty cheaply in terms of picks and salary and that he is one worth taking a punt on a la Teddy - Swapping our first for the second rounder (15 for 30) would get this deal done I think as it would then give the Doggies Picks 12 and 15 to offer for Jake Carlisle which would have to be tempting.

I could see the Dees looking at Bird and Robbo for a third round pick (Pick 42) as they need depth and Roos apparently rates Robbo

Pick 18 plus a swap of our third rounders (we get their 39 for our pick 50) should get us Zak Smith

So that leaves us with picks 30, 32, 39 and 42 which gives us 2,54 points. We use 1,627 on Mills that leaves us with 427 points which lets us pick Dunks at 30 with no deficit - we could go as high as 23 if we don't mind a 200 point deficit in 2016.

Clearly this is all pie in the sky but I do think it shows that as long as we are not too ambitious with the players we recruit then the Jetta deal gives us the currency t make some squad changes.

Reckon Henderson would be a lot more expensive than Talia

Henderson would be a great addition but the reason he wants to go to Geelong is to be closer to his family (because Melbourne is so far away ) so I'd be very surprised if he left Victoria if the Cats can't get a trade for him done.

Don't have the link but Fox Sports have reported that we were interested in Talia during the year, but not anymore.

Unless that's us playing our cards extremely close to our chest, it's safe to say we won't be picking him up.

Surely we are buckley's of getting Sinclair for Jetta. Would do that in a heartbeat.

Loving this post (especially seeing someone properly understanding the bid system, but I'm not sure all this fits under the cap. Would be absolutely all about getting Carlisle though

                              Thanks for your kind comment

I'd think we'd be able to manage these players in the cap. As a senior premiership winning player at the time of re-signing Bird would be on reasonable coin which would be enough to as good as cover Talia's wages you'd think.

I'd say the club had am offer around the $450K a year mark assigned to Jetta (whose offer from WA is believed to be about $600K per year). Surely we won't be offering more than that for Zak Smith or whatever ruckman we get.

Getting Talia or another fringe defender cheaply shouldn't be an issue. Getting the ruckman we need at the right price might be a but more troublesome.

We shouldn't be held to ransom by the likes of a Smith if we can't get the deal done. If it can't be done, persevere for another year with what we have and use the $450K as sign on fees for Parker and Heeney contract extensions.
