I am glad to see some sane posts re Rohan. The vitriol towards him by a select few has been bewildering and disappointing, given that yesterday was a complete failure of team coherence, not a close game that was lost in a couple of key moments.

Go look at some phantom drafts n if you can then look at under 18 YouTube games. 14 isn't a nothing pick, you'd still be able to pick up say a Coffield, Naughton, O'Brien, Worpel, Clavarino etc It's a draft that will drop away significantly after the 2nd round so there will still something in their at that pick. You could find even a Fogarty or Balta could slip through. Next years draft is looking set to be an absolute rippa so clubs will be very reluctant to trade any future picks.I have no idea about any of the kids in this year's draft but from what I've read here it seems that this year is pretty poor on face value. Given that, it would seem pick 14 is a bit of a nothing pick. Do you think there is a chance of either upgrading this pick OR swapping it for a future 1st rounder?Last edited by Boddo; 16 September 2017, 12:34 PM.Comment

This is what I never understand with supporters. When your identifying talent your looking at them for 3 years down the track. If people think 18 year old kids are going to be the difference for a premiership tilt their deluded. I floated the Brander idea months ago due to in the 3 years Time Franklins best will definitely be behind him and Reid will be 29 that December, Tippet & Sinclair would be most likely gone. Your drafting over the next few years for that time. It's a sound idea imo or we go all out n trade a star player for a very very early pick next year to get Lukosious. That'd be a dream come true for me
Despite what happened last night I still think our list is in pretty good shape. Even Florent and Hayward who one Muppet derided as being too small (they are forst year players and 18 years old FFS). I think we'll only trade players if the deal suits us and I think it will be pick upgrades. I'd personally love us to get our hands on Pick 5 from Freo that should get us Brander but they'd know that too.Comment

It would seem near impossible to get something like this done next year. Lukoscious is likely to go in the top 3 and we will need our 1st round pick to get Blakely. As far as forwards go, I think we will have to look for Blakey and perhaps Rayner down the track. Maybe we can get a Noah Balta this year. Else we may be looking at someone like Toby Pink to develop into something. It's still a long way done the track before Buddy is done and very hard to project how things will unfold over the next few years. This is what I never understand with supporters. Perhaps I used my adjectives wrong and "nothing pick" was lazy. My point is that, from what I've read, the draft falls away quickly after the first 7 or 8 picks and so pick 14 this year may be the equivalent of a 20 - 25 in other years. Given that our list is pretty damn good still, do we try to do a deal with a club that needs draft picks to get Lever, Stringer, Kelly, Ablett etc. We get their 1st rounder next year when we need it more and just go with 2nd and 3rd round speculative picks.

Thank you. I bow to your greater wisdom. I take back the nothing pick comment. I've got some more time over the next few weeks to do some scouting.Go look at some phantom drafts n if you can then look at under 18 YouTube games. 14 isn't a nothing pick, you'd still be able to pick up say a Coffield, Naughton, O'Brien, Worpel, Clavarino etc It's a draft that will drop away significantly after the 2nd round so there will still something in their at that pick. No it's not. You take Lukosious with your first pick that you traded for n then Blakey with your next. Blakey is not top 5. This is what you do to get that top talent like a Franklin, Dangerfield & Martin. Rayner is a long long time away. He doesn't play his first game till 2020. Plus he could completely fall off the radar very quickly. He's a 16 year old kid n a lot can change between now n the 2019 draft. Pink imo is not someone you will be building a forward line around. He's a 3rd forward. Lukosious you build a forward line around then you have Blakey as your 2nd n Reid as a third. It would seem near impossible to get something like this done next year. To get the #1 pick in 2018 you are talking about trading someone like Heeney, Mills or Parker. They are all under contract anyway, so it is very unlikely. I would be thinking that we finish top 4 next year, so Blakely is likely to be bid on before our 1st round pick. I would be interested in your views on what kind of trade we could do to get that #1 pick to land Lukosious. No it's not. Why, those people, including me, have pointed out his continual failure in finals. He had one kick in the first half towards the end of the 2nd quarter, he takes off from the backline, takes a bounce, Buddy leads to his left Rohan kicks to his right to the spare Geelong player. He had no possessions in the 3rd quarter and 6 in the last quarter junk time. He deserves a bake for that performance. Criticism yes, vitriol no.Comment

I took your advice and had a little look at some video highlights. Balta certainly looks an enticing prospect and Twomey has him as low as 19. Coffield also looks good.Go look at some phantom drafts n if you can then look at under 18 YouTube games. 14 isn't a nothing pick, you'd still be able to pick up say a Coffield, Naughton, O'Brien, Worpel, Clavarino etc It's a draft that will drop away significantly after the 2nd round so there will still something in their at that pick. BTW, how good does Izak Rankine look as a prospect for next year?Comment

I'd like to know who has the #1 pick Ludwig, if you can't get the 2018 wooden spooner correct you won't be getting the #1 pick! Trading in or out future picks is fraught with danger as you could slide and give up a much better pick than expected, Collingwoods first they expected to be 13/14, slid and gave GWS pick 7, or Saints getting Hawks first this year expecting to have a pick 12/13 but get pick 7!.To get the #1 pick in 2018 you are talking about trading someone like Heeney, Mills or Parker. I reckon we'll only use our first two picks and upgrade Melican as the third compulsory change. Might be able to trade out our third for an upgrade of our second.Comment

I have faith in our coaching staff, but I do wonder about the long term plan for Towers. What role are they looking for him to grow into (if anything)? He is a utility player who has grunt, but lacks polish. Does this mean he is a stop-gap or depth for the list when players are injured or undeveloped? I suppose I just don't see a high ceiling for his improvement. He is serviceable at best (and maybe that is enough). Thoughts?
