Hate to interrupt all this philosophising with football, but Hawks delisted Langford. Worth a look?Comment

I was at the Hawks game earlier in the year. My 2 memories of the game, Ronke having a blinder and kicking 7, and how does that spud Langford get a gameComment

Played junior footy in Sydney, so would probably be ok with a move up here, but I think he's a player where his name gets him more air time than his skills deserve.
Probably worth a punt early in his career, but been around long enough to show if he's got it, and I dont think he has.Comment

He's announced his retirement, so no he's not worth a look.
Our track record with recycled players is pretty good. I wouldn't start assuming the club have no idea and that we do. Back them in, they've earned it.Comment

Can someone explain the ruling as Langford still had a year to go on his contract and was delisted, does the total of his contact money for 2019 go into the salary cap of the Hawks? Do the Hawks have to pay him for the balance of his contact?Comment
-
I don't know about the salary cap but I would assume the Hawks have come to some kind of financial agreement with him which involves them paying him out something but less than the total of the final year of his contract.
My not especially considered opinion is that his contract should not count for salary cap purposes. Counting contracts of retired/delisted players for salary cap purposes is mostly important with RFAs where the club that the play is leaving had the right to match the contract so it is unfair to let it be varied down the track. I don't think Buddy was an RFA so not sure why it got applied to his deal. Mostly just because the Commish didn't like it I think. All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001)

It always amazes me how so many players can come into a team ie like a W Langford
They have an impact or forefill a role needed in the team
Then form slides and someone lifts above their ability and cu later
It is a great reminder how players who can play 200 plus games are fairly incredible human beings let alone incredible athletes
It makes it easier to be a lot more flexible when it comes to judging assessing our own Swans playersLast edited by Auntie.Gerald; 30 October 2018, 04:52 PM."be tough, only when it gets tough"

One of my most annoying footy memories is his performance in 2014 GF. Very ordinary player who has be in and out of side all his career. Could do no wrong that day including an incredibly flukey goal.Played junior footy in Sydney, so would probably be ok with a move up here, but I think he's a player where his name gets him more air time than his skills deserve.
