No. They have picked up another delisted ex-Docker, Tommy Sheridan. He was a good endurance runner, so probably a Tom Scully type role. Sheridan doesn't have a lot of footy nous, though. I'm not sure why we are looking at Sutcliffe. He was "sub" a lot when subs were the rule. His kicking went off target as he got older. He might be a back-up small back.

I wonder if we still are considering Sutcliffe. I suspect there is, at most, one spot maybe available for a DFA. They put Sutcliffe and Townsend through medicals a week or so ago (I think - maybe it was just earlier this week and time is going slower for me this week than normal). Now they've invited Menzel for a medical. Sounds like they are still sifting through a few options.

There's a possibility they may hold off until after the ND if they guarantee a player that they'll take them and get them not to nominate for the drafts. But that player would have to be very trusting to do so. The advantage would be to take one more pick-with-points into the draft, but I doubt that will really be necessary with our existing draft hand, and the fact that the last two ND picks will go on Ronke and (maybe, since it hasn't been confirmed) Fox.

        GWS has changed very quickly.

Only two seasons back their NEAFL side was loaded with high draft picks week after week, now they're picking over the scrapheaps of lowly clubs to fill spots.

I got the impression from this Beatson interview this morning that we'd choose one of them.

It was the same at the Hawks, probably one of the reasons why their coach ended up using him up the ground as a virtual decoy forward.

BF casts such a huge glamour.
Have you watched the cats ? They aren’t much better than us in terms of forward delivery. A forward who knows when and where to lead to makes it much easier on the player with the ball. Menzel ain’t a gun but he is a natural forward and I don’t see any reason why we shouldn’t have a crack when he comes cheap and we need goal kickers . At the very least he may lead into some space to create some room for Bud. Literally nobody in our current side does that

I know there are fitness and defensive pressure concerns with Menzel, but he's the only DFA being considered who is a legitimate best 22 player. I can't see adding depth players, like Sutcliffe, to the primary list who might be slightly better than the ones we've just delisted, if that.

If he passes the medical, I think he's worth a shot on a 1 year contract, if that's acceptable to him.

If we take him, I would delist Pink and redraft him to the rookie with our final pick and leave Fox as a 3rd year rookie. I believe Pink was the last player taken in the draft 2 years ago, so if nobody wanted him then, I can't see anyone taking him now. It's not like he's done anything special since he's been at the Swans.

Do we really need another injury-plagued forward?
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

Agree on Menzel, he's a crafty player who can be relied on to kick a couple most weeks, opposition defenders need to man him up, which can only help the likes of Buddy.

As for Pink, he was the last player taken a few years ago for good reason. He hasn't shown anything to date that would suggest a successful AFL career.

Balancing injuries to Menzel and Reid we may get one player out of them per fortnight.

Menzel has been a lot more consistent than Reid or AJ other than the injection that backfired.

Sydney Uni sign Swans Academy players Joey Reinhard, Sam Wicks and Josh Stern. While I assumed this meant they've already been told by the Swans they won't be drafted by them, there's a quote from Sydney Uni coach Tom Morrison saying he hopes Reinhard is "drafted in a few weeks' time"

Menzel knocked back a 1 year deal at Cats.

Now, a player with his injury history cant really expect anything more than 1 year rolling deals. He is not a top 10 player at a club, and his end could come quickly.
Two reasons I can think of for knocking back the cats
                          1) He has a 2 year deal lined up elsewhere. But where? If he is to uproot to Sydney, you would think he would need a 2 year commitment.
                          2) He feels his spot is in jeopardy with Rohan arriving, and he wont be able to get a 2020 deal if he's not in the best 22 at cats.

If I'm wrong on (1), then I suspect he'll take a 1 year deal whereever he can get it, but probably in Melbourne to avoid having to move.

That leaves only Bailey Stewart of what I would have considered to be the top four academy prospects in the NEAFL.
Are the Swans thinking of giving him a cat B rookie contract.

Not sure if I heard right this morning, bit I'm sure they said Menzel was having a "second medical for the Swans"..

Excellent if so. He is a beaut player.

BTW, what does the Hawks do with injuries that we, or other clubs, can't ?

Do you fancy expanding on this comment?

(I think it's a myth that the Hawks have anything other than a standard history with injury plagued players but you might have evidence to the contrary.)
