We will want to nibble for late-round picks in next year's draft. If we gave Richmond pick 54 in exchange for their 2020 third-round pick, the trade may be Jones and pick 54 to Richmond for pick 19 and their 2020 third-round pick. Richmond will then own two picks in the second round and another two in the third round that they could use or trade.

A caveat is that 2020 picks are a bit more valuable than 2019 picks due to the relative quality of the drafts.
Pick swaps are often a part of trades. It just depends on what the needs are for each club. But as premiers, Richmond are not likely to squabble much if they want a player and value traded back if fair. If Jones nominated for the 2019 draft, he would go a lot higher than pick 19. He might even sneak into the top 10.

Just heard on SEN that EFC are interested in Collingwood's Mason Cox. This might indicate they're resigned to losing Daniher now.

What are Richmond's draft needs? Do they need late picks more than they need players?

Tom Brown, yes the much maligned and lampooned Tom Brown in print saying Daniher on last two seasons is worth no more than a single first and Essendon should grab it and run because next year Daniher may be worth a whole lot less.

First time for everything, that Tom Brown is a nice bloke despite what we have been saying

Hang tough Swans, call their bluff, pressure is on them not us. Same in the Papley trade, pressure on Carlton not us.

Essendon does not have a genuine A-grade star and its premiership hopes for the near future are fading fast... the optimism surrounding Essendon’s list and premiership hopes in the near future depend on what happens with Joe Daniher and Orazio Fantasia.

Daniher wants to be traded to Sydney and at his best, pre-groin injuries, he would have been worth two top-10 picks. But he’s not any more. He’s played 11 games in two years.

Essendon will still push for two top-10 picks given Daniher is contracted for next season but pick 5, plus maybe a swap of later picks, would be a good result because that pick 5 is going to be very valuable in this draft.
So says the worst coach in history.

They are now sitting with picks 19, 38, 39, 41 and might get another in that range if McIntosh goes and maybe a 3rd rounder for Butler. Richmond don't really need anything. Next year they regain the best defender in the game. Dynasty.

I think Jones would be a good fit for them. He plays that chaos type football. Loves to run at every occasion. A good get for them for pick 19, given their situation. You would think Zak would be happy with that, with an odds on chance of winning a premiership next year.

Agree with this.....Towers was unlucky to get that poke in the eye....he was settling in nicely to the seniors before that happened. I saw Towers as a cleverer version of Fox.....with more upside. Safe to say this season is Fox's last chance....

None of the commentators creaming themselves during the GF about the ex-GC talent playing for Richmond (Prestia, Lynch, Caddy) seemed to realise the implications of what they were saying.
And it appears Carlton have been talking to Papley since May.

Not at the end pre the eye poke......he was improving in that area and was pushing best 22 IMO.

Fox's problem is he doesn't get enough of the ball to show those skills you speak of. Towers was racking up decent numbers before the eye poke.

Let's hope Fox finds more of it next season.....

Oddly enough, I see Fox as a cleverer version of Towers. Clever as a Fox, in fact. And no one has ever called him Fawlty Fox, something that cannot be said about Towers.

I hope we start Fox in pre-season as a Nick Smith replacement type. I would give him a real chance of holding down that kind of spot. I don't think he's on his last chance, but like every fringe player, he has to continue to improve to secure a spot on the list going forward.

What's wrong with that. He is a Victorian playing outside Victoria, so nothing to see here. Anyway, they said they only wanted to know if he could fix the toilet at Princes Park.

Yes, I figure the Swans have weighed up the positives and negatives with Zac and decided they can live without him. While I'll miss his pace, I'm tending to agree.

For all his upside, there is a number of negatives which persisted into this season....when by now they should have been remedied.

Clarkson would have done no better. Worst list in history.

Of course he would have. We were grossly unfit. When Barassi got hold of us our fitness dramatically improved. He said we were very unfit.

We were so unfit that the day North flogged us at Princes Park our players had hands on hips 15 minutes into the first quarter.

                                Upside:
                                - fairly quick
                                - runs and carries
                                - rebound defender
                                - coming into his prime

                                Downsides:
                                - grumpy
                                - angry (leads to multiple appearances at the tribunal)
                                - can drift in and out of games
                                - injuries?
                                - lack of precision by hand a foot
                                - often doesn’t take the first disposal option (leads to being tackled)
                                - doubles back a lot in traffic (leads to being tackled)
                                - can get a bit dirty at teammates when things aren’t working
                                - rising price tag

Happy he was a Swan. Hope he feels a Swan at heart for life. Glad we’re not selling the farm for him ... though it’s clear he doesn’t want to be with us any more. We can fill the small void he leaves easily enough I think.
