This trashing of AFL journalists is too premature.

I assume, by premature, you mean based on literally decades of them throwing up random suggestions and occasionally getting some right?

This isn’t a new thing that journo’s do, and neither is the criticism of them.

For Swans matters, guys like Healy and Neil Cordy - who seem to have a good relationship with the club - more often get it right … and they less often make grandiose predictions or speculation. That’s the difference between sharp shooter journalism and the shot gun approach. Both will get things right, some might cause a little collateral damage along the way.

Please refrain for asking anyone on RWO to apologise to the journos when the media perpetrators don’t apologise for getting things wrong. And getting them wrong often. They are often critical of our club and our players. They should be open to criticism themselves if they are putting things out there.

So its a no for me.

And the logic there is off. By using the mid season draft, we burn a pick that could be used on someone to fill a specific need (e.g. ruck). Better off getting him using no draft picks at all as a Delisted Free Agent.

We need to get through the trade period to know if they were correct or incorrect.

If we don’t end of signing Dawson, Hewitt and Stephens due to financial constraints, Morris and others will be proved correct.

If we don’t sign Dawson, Hewitt and Stephens then I think each person on here who criticised Tom Morris should apologise.

People on here are going strong on journalistic ethics and competency. They want journalists to be held to account. You in turn should hold yourself to account and apologie to these journalists if they are proved to be correct with their stories on the tightness of salary cap.

I will apologise to the forum if Dawson is signed and questioning of AFL journalistic performance is proved to be correct.

For someone so sanctimonious, you’re very, very quick to criticise everyone else.

He's still free and I assume if we do want him for 2022 onwards then we would have known if there was any interest from other clubs in the MSD, given he already plays for our VFL side and wants to play at the Swans.

We need to remember that there is a source of these "rumours" for these so called journos and they are called "player managers". It's in their interest to get the best deal for their clients and by "leaking" info to the media, they could start a bidding frenzy, which is in the agent's financial interest. It's happening all over the world such as soccer and unfortunately it's now big business in AFL.

Is there any realistic academy prospects this year ? With covid we might have a couple of hidden gems we might be able to take as rookie selections given the academy players have had limited games the last two years

I'm catching up, having been distracted.
I'm a bit worried about Luke getting four years. absolute champion, and the Best and Fairest was well-deserved, and certainly strengthened his case at the negotiating table.
But four years? I keep thinking about how quickly Ryan O'Keefe declined, and hope that the MC has the courage to not select Parker when the time comes. I worry that his being on the list will drive other mids away from the Club, either because of cap pressure, or the hurdle of incumbency.
The U14 fullback daughter and I were having a kick in the backyard this morning (soft ball: she is still recovering from hand surgery last month) and thinking it through. Perhaps Kennedy retires after season 22? And Luke's re-signing pretty much puts paid to Hewitt at the club, which is a great pity. We both think that Stephens is a bust and should be traded out: had plenty of opportunities and didn't show enough.
And I can't remember who wrote suggesting that Campbell would be a good replacement for Wicks as a pressure forward. They're dreaming! I reckon Wicks is a lock, week-in, week-out, and Campbell would be absolutely wasted in the role.

From the bits and pieces of the academy games that I've seen, I think Angus Anderson is the most likely. A tough inside mid with a rugby background, who uses the ball creatively. He also acquitted himself well in a VFL game this season. Last time I looked, he was the only one from our academy to be invited to the draft combine. I think he's probably done enough for a rookie spot.

I was hoping to check him and a few others out, in an Allies game, but it seems that their games have been cancelled. These are our players who made the squad. Toby Alker, Kye Pfrengle, Liam Puncher, Felix Rogers, Angus Anderson and Pierce Roseby. Pfrengle was really good in the first academy game of the season, but he was injured the rest of the year. He was our best defender for most of the game and then went forward late, and looked our best forward. Roseby would have helped his cause, by playing a couple of good games at VFL level.

I think we're confusing "Journalists" with "the media" - the former (and not just in sport) are almost as rare as unicorns.
The latter? Well, sprouting (or sprouting) nonsense is their job.
I can't understand getting mad at Barratt, Morris etc. I don't think they have any material effect on any outcome, in which case we'd only be getting mad at them for spouting rubbish that we don't agree with - which sounds a touch narcissistic.
Sadly, I have only a limited amount of rage left - so I'll save it for the AFL commission, the umpires, teams that poach our players etc. etc. - entites who actually do materially effect the Swans chances.

Well, if true, that's a turn around! Who would want to work for Luke Sayers? He treats the previous coach terribly by stringing him along and giving him death by a thousand cuts, and then solicits potential CEOs right in front of the nose of the current CEO (who decided to resign today).

My wife used to work for Sayers at PwC. She described him as ruthless, arrogant and only interested in money. He also paid lip service to staff welfare. Great bloke to work for! Lyon was smart to walk away.
