Adam Saad (age 26 at the time) was traded last year for pick 8. If Dawson at age 24 is not at least as valuable as Adam Saad then I must be watching a different game.Comment

I’m less focussed on exactly which pick or deal, as what it allows us to do. Though I’m in full agreement with a few here who have said he’s a better player than Saad or Cerra.
What I want is for the Swans to leverage this to boost KPP stocks. Whether that is accessing one of Ports young rucks, whether it’s doing a three way deal that gets us an established KPD from another club, whether it’s getting sufficient picks to have a couple of shots at some of the few quality talls in the draft this year … that’s gotta be the goal.
So if it’s Ladhams plus 17, and we then use 17 to draft a KPD. Or if it’s 4 and 23 for our first pick, and we get a shot at Mac Andrew in the draft, or we get two late first round picks to grab a mix of the WA talls that have real promise.
That’s still the weakness in our list. If the little cry baby going home to mummy helps us fix that, then okey dokey.'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment

Pathetic comment at the end. Dawson perfectly entitled to return to S.A whether that be because of go home factor or for financial reasons. Even more so given Covid travel issues. Unlike in most jobs the players have no say where they begin their career. Embarassing reading such comments from a Swans supporter. I hoped we were better than that.
Poster on another site said "Hewett to Carlton deal done". No source stated yet? Anyone got eyes on this?Comment

We can draw some inspiration here from the Bombers this time last year. At the time, they were facing losing Merritt, Daniher and Fantasia. There was a lot of talk that they would go backwards as a result. They managed to turn this round by re-signing Merritt and obtaining good draft picks for the rest through trading.
We need to be similarly strategic in our thinking here. Losing Dawson and Hewitt opens up opportunities. It reduces our salary cap pressure. It enables us to potentially re-sign others by offering better deals. The draft picks collected can bring in good talent. While its not ideal, we need to think of this as an opportunity its not a threat. We need to be hard-nosed but realistic. A little creativity may also help. I would imagine our brains trust are spending the weekend mapping out their strategy goung forward and various options.Comment

Anyway, back to my point about us targeting KPPs. Watching Melbourne last night, made me think to go look at their team when they last made the finals in 2018 vs now. The core of their midfield group was there - Viney, Oliver, Pertraca, Brayshaw, Gawn, Harmes.
What’s been added to the team that lost a prelim vs West Coast that year: Lever (though he was out injured), May, Jackson, Brown, Fritsch and Petty. Melbourne has improved in lots of different ways, but that’s a massive gain in KPPs and marking power at both ends of the ground.
We’ve got the elements of massive midfield depth, we don’t have the same with our KPPs. Let’s go get em as we enter the window.'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment

I'd suggest Ralph is probably closer to the truth with what he said yesterday, but it may well sit somewhere in the middle.
I'd suggest the $ figure we offered was probably reasonable, but the timing of when those $ may flow and the length of contract is more likely to have been the sticking point."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

It is always amusing to hear people blame primary schools for many of the perceived issues with “ young people “ nowadays and all the pampering that occurs at school.
It is usually someone of a certain vintage with no practical knowledge or experience of the current primary school curriculum that makes these all encompassing statements. Much like previous generations who would bemoan about the young people of the day and their lack of manners , how lazy they were and how easy they had it etc etc .
Followed by how much harder it was in my day I know this to be true as I have been guilty of it myself????
Now I have a vested interest in this subject as I am married to and also the father of Primary school teachers and as such the following comments may contain some unconscious bias but I can assure you that I have heard enough over the last 30 years to feel I have some inside knowledge on the subject .
Schools are not in the business of creating entitled children who are unable to exist in society without the assistance of others.
Parents ( not all but many) create this mindset from an early age and teachers then have to change their belief that the world revolves around them and educate them on how life really works.
Teachers are often also tasked with having to teach children some of the basic life tools such as manners , sharing and consideration for others as these are often not given much weight by parents.
While governments do legislate and then try to enforce laws and regulations that attempt to create an inclusive and all encompassing one size fits all society rest assured the people tasked with implementing this are far more practical and realistic in their application.
Children are taught at primary school that not everyone gets to win and that sometimes life is not fair but that there is merit in trying to do your best.
Now what happens at home is another thing again and I agree that many in society have become accustomed to taking the easy way out when it comes to parenting and as a result have raised dependant and self absorbed individuals who struggle when faced with reality.
Rant over now back to the subject.
We have invested much in Jordan but if he doesn’t want to be here then we have to accept that and look to find a replacement either from within or elsewhere. He was drafted at pick 56 and so it was either great drafting or great luck either way we can do it again .
Any pick or player we can negotiate in return could possibly be classified as a win considering that initial pick.
Although I along with many others do feel that we have not exactly had the greatest of results in trades over the last few years so maybe we are due a good result.
As someone mentioned on an earlier post we had another 17 players on the field during the game he played and we need to focus on moving forward not looking back.
Re Dawson - it is disappointing that all the development we put into him seems to have gone unappreciated. Reckon we would have expected at least another two years out of him especially when we appear to entering a flag window. Very big loss for us - his kicking is elite, especially the 'money' kick into the middle of of the ground that opens up the centre corridor. In addition, his high marking on the wing is very difficult to replace. Coaches and officials will be just as gutted as the fans.Comment

Wasn't clear in my original post where I should have made it clear that it was parenting that was the problem and that primary teachers are left to handle the dependent and entitled kids that arrive in class.
