I just watched an interview with Beatson recorded prior to last year's (Campbell, Gulden, McDonald ) draft.
His thinking is quite awesome, almost prophetic, as it needs to be.
We work around the top 30% of the draft process on here, be cause that is as far as our limited knowledge and resources permit.
And that's terrific, the reason the forum exists.
But the recruiters have second, third, fourth and fifth options all sorted.
As many of the 'what ifs' as possible are presorted.
The whole thing is fascinating.

It could also mean that the Swans told them that they did not want this year's number 17 but were interested in a similar pick next year as they preferred to use the draft pick then due to more certainty around the potential of draft picks. This year's draft is a crap shoot due to COVID.

It would seem more likely that we told the Crows that pick 17 plus some later picks were not enough, but we were willing to take Adelaide's 2022 1st rounder in exchange for Dawson. That pick is likely to be in the top 10. The Crows would still have a 1st rounder in 2022, likely to be near the end of the round.

This sort of deal makes sense to me. We will free up more salary cap space with Franklin's contract ending and the timing would be right to make a play for a top recruit in a trade.

Maybe the Crows will back themselves to move up the ladder next year, so Dawson would cost them pick 23 and a drop down the order in next year's 1st round, which may seem more palatable from their point of view.

Interesting feedback from Sam Gray I know he didn’t exactly set the world on fire but surprising to hear nonetheless

Gray was asked whether he received much feedback from John Longmire and Sydney’s coaching staff throughout the year.
“Probably not as much as I would’ve liked at times,” he replied.

In any event it should say something to Dawson that Aliir bolted back to Sydney the first opportunity he got. Amazing city is Sydney.

He was saying Gulden might be the hardest to get depending where he fell in the draft.

The four way pick trade that has been done means either

A. we are getting a future first as all or part of the trade

B. Cows have shut down trade talks and will just use PSD to get Dawson

C. If it's B we may end up accepting something unpalatable just to get a pick or two in the door rather than get nothing

Feeling uneasy about this now
