Just with a bunch of broken toys lying on the ground.
    It's true - he's hitting his stride.

He's happy the Swans were able to get "something" in the trade.

Reckons the Swans are a year or two ahead of the Crows (but I presume on the same trajectory - lets see if they make the eight from 15th like we did this year?)
Do players need to nominate a particular club?

      Could Jordan have said:

“My baseline salary is $600,000 over 5 years. I would play at Adelaide or Port. The Swans can negotiate with both clubs and I’ll happily go to whoever as long as I can achieve my base salary”.

Has any player in modern times allowed the clubs their leaving more flexibility to negotiate with more than one club?

I think, to be fair to George here, apart from Walsh, the concept of running two ways is largely foreign to them.

Carlton has a great spine, but their midfielders think defence is something you build in the back yard.

I'd like to give Sier a crack at an apprenticeship under Joey for 2 years and see where it leads to

            Of course we shouldn't.

We are all being a bit cynical about Constable and Sier as well, now that they've been delisted. I don't know if you missed some of the debate over these 2 players the past couple of years when many on RWO argued that we should go after them and Ludwig had to beat them down with a truncheon.

            Some still haven't given up.

As far as Amartey and McLean go, they have new deals, it's up to them to prove themselves. Competition for spots is always a good thing. As for Reid, does it matter? He can't stay on the park for all his loyalty. Harsh but true....
Would GoSwannies, who is a medical expert, be able to comment on the following?

Sam Reid has spent so much time out due to soft tissue injuries. Could the legion of soft tissue injuries be due to Sam not being fanatical enough with how he progressively prepares his body for the rigorous of AFL football?

I note that Buddy has turned the corner on soft tissue injuries after two years of frustrations with soft tissue injuries.

Has he worked hard enough on staying on the park during his career or is it sheer bad luck?

Yes, I'm sure at times, it wasn't so much that they couldn't, it was more that they wouldn't.

I just think its an exceptionally low risk approach (assuming he is on a fairly minimal $ contract) that could have a decent pay off if we were to get lucky with him getting a final run of luck in terms of injuries, compared to the alternatives (I.e. what is he precluding us from doing otherwise if he is maintained on the list on relatively small $ - i.e. the answer is not much). It is not like we are short of talls for the forward line suddenly if the gamble didn't pay off.

He did seem very rusty at the end of the season, but he also was broadly fit - point being he would be okay placed for pre-season, and its been those years where he has managed a good pre-season that in general he has had a good run of games during it fitness wise.

I'd only do it if its a like for like replacement - i.e. you get rid of a similar player on similar money that has been a dud, to replace with one that is probably a dud but you want to give a chance to (and a judgment has been made that there is noone better to fill that list spot at the beginning of their career).

I know very little about Sier, but I don't think Constable has ever been given much of a genuine chance at Geelong - maybe he isn't anywhere near good enough or one of those players above reserves footy but not good enough for seniors, but he is the style of player that could in theory be an area where we will need to fill sooner rather than later. He obviously can get the pill - what was is about 32 touches a game or something in VFL this season, but is he just another Ryan Clarke?

I wouldn't mind him on a 1 year, minimum $ contract, as I said as long as there was someone that was fairly comprehensively seen as a dud shipped out to fit him in (who is left out of contract?).

A few thoughts following the trade period (some of which I tried to post yesterday but that may have been after I temporarily screwed up the thread):

                          * our trade period wasn't great overall but it didn't do any harm to Paddy McCartin's chances (especially given we unsuccessfully tried to recruit Barrass). I really hope the club decides he's worth investing in. Not a lot to lose - is there?

                          * I'm heartened to hear that the club sees Ladhams as a long term #1 ruck option. If that proves correct, then he was a steal. Something I like about Ladhams is his physicality, although it sounds like something he had to work on. It sounds like we were a bit in two minds about getting Ladhams in - see here: “The deal had fallen over”: Ladhams’ manager speaks on last-minute trade (sen.com.au). Not surprised given that we had already re-signed Sinclair, Amartey and McLean (in addition to getting Hickey last year and re-signing Naismith too - I still can't believe we did that!)

                          * One thing I like about the Ladhams recruitment is that it is another big body we can put around McDonald while he is still growing and developing

                          * Also Ladhams makes more sense when you consider that in 2 years Buddy, Reid, Sinclair (and maybe Hickey) will be done

                          * We got done for Dawson but did well with Ladhams (partly because he is worth less to us now than last year).

Overall I think we made the most of a difficult situation and are well placed for next year.

                          *

Charlie Gardiner hinted at adding to our midfield depth.. could be achieved through a delisted player like Sier or Constable.. might not make immediate sense, they are other clubs' discards, curious time to be adding a player like them to the list when we have so many other mids coming through - Isaac, Stephens, Gulden, Campbell. Back the club in as they know the situation with their list better than anyone. Could be lots of reasons for wanting mids.. Rowy's knee more of a problem than first thought, not confident Joey will go beyond next year, might want Parker more fwd with age.. plenty to work through going forward, good to have options..

                              Charlie Constable - 2019 Highlights

He does appear a mobile 192cm and lean at 86kg

Could be a good opportunity for defence mid or as a lead

Will be interesting to watch what we do re keeping on a Clarke vs going someone else an opportunity like we did with Kennedy years back

Nice to read the club has raised the need to change the PSD - fans of stupid clubs will just say its the Swans whining as per normal, but the comments are spot on:

Also interesting inclusion around some players being pretty unhappy with Dawson's very late call - suggest there won't be much love lost when we first play the fruit tingles.
