    Very funny

But seriously, Chad has exceeded expectations at 39 and due to that and the AFL article as well, he has had extra interest created in him. I am suggesting that he might therefore go higher in the draft than if Chad had a less explosive start to his senior footy.

So he is likely to go before 39 and even 31 hence the thought of trading up to 23?

Cal Twomey doesn't even have Warner in his top 35 and don't think many have him in the top 30. I definitely think he's not a first rounder. I would look for a key defender with our second pick (assuming that JVR is already gone), but if we don't see what we like at that pick, perhaps Warner should be considered there. It really depends on who is the best available at each pick. Warner would be in contention somewhere in the 30s, I would think.

As the Geelong coach said, if you just look at the five minute highlights of Gary Rohan, you would think he was the best player in the country!
I think that highlights package, and others I have seen, shows Goater is an elite clearance winner. The question is whether we have good reason to believe we can fix his kicking.

Draft Central (which now appears to be Rookie Me Central) has Corey at 35 in their power rankings and in the range of 30-50 in their draft profiles. So I'd be okay with him being taken with either of our picks in the 30s.

For those who haven't seen their draft profiles, they're a comprehensive write up, of all the 90 players that were invited to the various draft combines.

Also, he is a KPP who, it seems, can play forward or back - which is just what we need. Plus, he's the exactly right age and experience profile. Finally, we've spent a year thoroughly checking him out so it's not like we're casting away our list spot lightly. The fact that it helps bond us with the McCartins is a bonus.* All that said, Paddy's concussion history and his on-field act last year (and I can't help speculate that those two things might be connected) is a concern to me.

              * This is not necessarily a bonus - could also be a problem if things go sour with Paddy - but I don't think it will be. Even if Paddy doesn't work out I think we'll communicate really clearly and hopefully maintain good relations.
Fair enough - I'm not averse to recruiting him, I'm just cognisant of the record of recruiting former top draft picks who haven't made the grade at their original club. OTOH we know that skill wasn't his problem and he's still only 25. As a father of children with diabetes and concussion issues, I'd be delighted to see him get a second crack, even more delighted if it's with the Swans. I just wouldn't put much store in him being an amazing turnaround story.

Paddy’s problem was concussion. He can play

Even before the concussions started, there were plenty of Saints fans viewing him as a bust

I believe the AFL had a deadline of last Friday for all nominees to advise their vax status and intentions. Be interesting to see if any potential draftees are no jabbers

Keeping in mind our picks will slide down 3, here are my fearless predictions for the main draft 2021:
                      Pick 16 Arlo Draper
                      Pick 31 Rhett Bazzo
                      Pick 39 Corey Warner
If Angus Anderson gets bid on late, we match with 70 and take a small points deficit next year, otherwise take in rookie draft.

Fans can be hard taskmasters- from memory the concussions started relatively early.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

An article showing where each club picked someone the pick before a much better player was drafted. He went next! Your club's ultimate 'if only' draft pick (afl.com.au)
In 2007, Sydney drafted Veszpremi with pick 11. Hawthorn drafted Cyril Rioli at pick 12.

However, as the article shows, every club has made similar draft blunders at some point. The article only limits the number to one for each club, but a longer and more interesting list of draft brainfades is certainly possible. For example, Hawthorn drafted Matthew Dennis (5 games) with pick 42 in 1997, then Sydney drafted Adam Goodes (372) at 43.

Pessimism is a prerequisite for Saints fans.....I wouldn't give their views too much credence.

That article annoys me because it omits to mention that Cyril said he didn’t want to play outside VIC, effectively making him unavailable to us.
