2021 AFL DRAFT: Sydney set to be big players on both nights
A much better thought out article than most of the mainstream media's "analysis" (I use that word with hesitancy when applying it to most media) of our needs and possible strategy.

I have a feeling we may be in the market for Dogs pick 23. If Darcy is not the first F/S bid on, maybe pick 31 & 39 for 23 & 52, the sweetener could be a 2022 late rounder in that trade, or after they've matched Darcy, we trade the Dogs pick 69 for a 2022 Dogs junk pick.

Pick 52 will end up early 40's by the time we use it, pick 69 probably mid 50's.

Anything is possible, given we have two firsts next year and a likely crop of academies, even trading our 2022 second for a pick in the 30's.

There's a brief snippet of an interview with Beatson on the AFL site where he confirms the club has been talking to the Dogs about securing that pick but he doesn't rate the chances as good. He thinks they have a better (or at least different) offer on the table.

The pick swap Sydney is hopeful of getting done on draft night

Sorry - been away for a while - are Bell and Clarke on the list? Last I checked there was no news of them either resigning or being delisted.

Yes, they are still there to the best of my knowledge. A big season ahead for both players.

Clarke could step up in place of Hewett and play a handful of games. I think he's underrated as a tagging midfielder (just not as possession winning midfielder!)

Still not sold on Bell, but all the best to him!

Cal Twomey's 2021 Phantom AFL Draft: Top 30, late picks, club whispers
              * Only player he has us getting is Tom Brown. Our second pick is a bit later than pick 30.
              * This phantom draft has the Cats trading picks for the Dogs' pick 23 (a fair assessment given that the Cats have more to offer).

Cal is pretty good with his phantoms, getting a lot of picks right with one big exception - I’m not sure he has ever got our pick correct. Even when we’ve been at the pointy end he has been wrong (he thought we were going Grainger-Barrass over Logan & Flanders over Stephens).

KB is the king of misdirection. All the talk about taking mids and half backs could just mean that we are taking van Rooyen.

I agree with both points and so I'm encouraged by a few things:

                  (1) the players still available at our first pick: Goater, Draper, Knevitt, Chesser, van Rooyen
                  (2) the possibility Giants might be open to trading down their second first rounder. It's only 3 places but there's going to be a lot of difference between picks 15 and 18 (in this case Sonsie, Butler and Wilmot)
                  (3) Paddy McCartin looks like he'll come to us for nothing
                  (4) We'll pick up Anderson cheaply (I think)

I still wouldn't mind us getting another big bodied but quick inside mid in the Goater-Knevitt mould.

                    Like Angry Anderson perhaps?

He's got good endurance but is he quick / explosive though? I think someone like the Goat or MK might be a step up.

BTW I do like this headline Shifter rates Banger as a draft prospect

He must be quick. In the photo, he's moving so fast, his hair his having trouble keeping up with him.

My source tells me that both the Swans and GWS have had a number of meetings with Aleer.
If GWS don’t take him earlier (he expects they will), then the Swans will take him.

Giants have got 2, 13, 53. Is your reliable source saying Giants will pick up Aleer with pick 13?!?

BTW Kinnear B has confirmed the Swans would likely take former No.1 pick Paddy McCartin in the supplemental selection period...

"All I can say is we're waiting on some information back from the AFL, if that's all positive there's every likelihood Paddy will be with us. Last year we were looking at him at both ends of the ground. He's got the flexibility to play both ends and it's good for your list profile if you've got players that have got the capacity to do that."

Not defending Cal here, but he's not the only one. We give jack sh&t away to the media, and good on us for it
