Given our list is in good shape, I don't think we need to bring in too many new players at season's end. North or WCE clearly have a need to bring in multiple young players to really kick-start their rebuilds. Accordingly, I was thinking that we could package together our current two first round picks (13 and 18) which total 2,197 draft points in value in return for a number 3 or 4 pick (equivalent value falls between these two picks). We get an elite pick and they get two first rounders - win/win deal! Obviously these picks may move with father/son, academy selections, priority picks etc but its worth a serious think! I'm trying to think outside of the square here. What do others think?
Top 5 picks are near impossible to secure unless you pay well overs. Likely pick swap scenarios will vary year to year depending on the evenness of the draft, or depth/shallowness of the draft.
First rounders mostly get traded to avoid burning them in matching, or if you're Ned Guy or Stephen Silvani :-) Brisbane, assuming Ashcroft nominates them as F/S will be looking to offload their first rounder to a bunch of seconds/thirds, Gold Coast being the most likely trading partner as they have heaps.

Lloyd is very much a required player, contract talks are in the works and will get done according to HarleyComment

We get the best deal with a club that needs extra points for F/S selection and doesn’t want to have to use their high draft pick on them.
Unfortunately I don’t trust our drafting at the high end. Until Logan, we haven’t really gotten great returns from our high end open draft picks.
Stephens and Campbell show some promise, but have yet to show they are close to par with other open drafted picks fives.
Eg recent picks 5-9: Serong, Connor Rozee, Ben King, Bailey Smith, Cerra, Naughton.
If we can get a KPP with a high draft pick, great.
Otherwise I would prefer we get more picks in the 20s to 40s to get another Sheldrick, Warner, McCartin, and going further back, a Parker or Goodes.Comment

From recent trades up, I think we would at best get a number seven or eight with our 13 and 18.

No where near enough to get a team to part with a high pick. Using the points scale doesn't work, points are only useful when calculating matching purposes.

There'd be a certan symmetry, if the Swans signed up all these good young players coming out of contract and then offered whatever was left ($400k or whatever) to Buddy - on a take it or leave it basis.Comment

At the risk of giving someone heart palpitations, Chad will likely be re-signed before the finals.'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment

the pile often says to the receiver how "valuable" they are to the giver. They want to feel wanted as well as getting paid. It's very
common.Comment

Contract conundrums lie ahead for Sydney
It appears the Swans may have to request their players make a Hawthorn like pact to accept unders for near future success.....lest risk blowing all our development up before it actually comes to fruition. I understand some like to make hay while the sun shines but surely most players play for club success.....and I'm assuming most of our players love our club, want it to succeed and to share in that success?Last edited by stevoswan; 19 July 2022, 12:31 PM.Comment
