Do you mean in the clubs defence? Or in defence of the all in list strategy?
    Surely they're two different things?

I imagine we'd expect two top 10 draft picks if we ever sought to trade him. He's a star, a slightly inconsistent star, but a player of rare ability.

Not stated in the article, but Sydney's early conclusion of trading this year gave time for these later trades to occur.

I admire your optimism, but you might get laughed out of the trading room.

Agreed. It would probably take three.

The clubs defence.....as for the list strategy, history may judge that as a mistake because it didn't lead to a flag win but there may have been other factors at play, ie: the AFL's revenge.

One of the first Draft selection is out on Zero Hanger with the Swans having pick 16 (after all the Suns and draft father son picks) . Swans pick was James Leake, Tasmanian defender / forward 187cms and 77 kilos, who made the All Australian team this season as part of the Allies. He switched from defender to forward late in the season for Tasmania and kicked goals.

Tasmania is a risk, more so than WA players who we have in abundance.

There will be a strong lure to be part of the first ever Tasmanian team, even though they will suck hard for a few years, like GWS and GC did, and before that, Port and Fremantle.

Thanks for that. It's no surprise that we would be looking to draft a defender in the first round. I mentioned earlier that we would probably draft Leake or Murphy at about pick 16.

Would we look at bidding on McCabe at about that pick? We have a bit of recent form in trolling other clubs at the draft, and McCabe may be bid on between picks 15 and 20.

I can't see why the club needs your (or indeed anyone elses) defence, as it wasn't under attack.

Actually I don't think it's ever been under attack on RWO - it's a Swans fansite for goodness sake! No need to get your pre-emptive defences prepared for a non-existant attack Stevoswan.

The Zero Hanger draft has Conor O'Sullivan going at pick 10 to Geelong and Ollie Murphy at pick 13 to Essendon

I've attached link to Zero Hanger phantom draft. Expect plenty more like these in the coming weeks. It has us picking James Leake (187cm Defender-Forward from Tassie) at pick 16. Not upset by that if both KPDs O"Sullivan & Murphy are gone by then. Hope he is not a flight risk when Tasisie come into comp (2027?).

What I've learnt going through this mock draft is how crucial where the bids for GC's 3 x Academies & WB F/S fall. For instance Geelongs pick 8 falls 2 places to 10. Essendon's Pick 9 falls 4 places to 13 & likewise our Pick 12 to 16.

I've spotted the must have replacement for us, one Riley Hardeman, a 185 75kg defender! When have we not recruited a 185 75 defender!

Harry Demattia would not look out of place either

Any of the 4 in and around 15 to 20ish look pretty good

                            Wilson
                            Leake
                            Hardeman
                            Demattia

I don’t think there appears a tall that fits as a KPD

Charlie Edwards is my roughie though

Is anyone looking forward to getting to pre season and watching Adams, Gus, Rowbottom and Parker wrestling for that footy and or putting on some cracking tackle pressure

I would not be surprised given Rowbottoms trajectory improvement that he maybe climbing a little closer to a lesser percentage “run with”

Just a slight adjustment but willing

Ps - apologies for delete then post……..when ever I go in via iPhone which is common for me …..any edit immediately deletes my post……and or the predictive text is insane???

It actually doesn't matter where the bids come. You get the same results if you simply eliminate the priority selections from the draft pool. For example, If the first 2 GC academy selections are removed from consideration, then O'Sullivan goes to Geelong at pick 8, instead of pick 10 as shown in the mock draft. The player still ends up at the same club, just at a different pick number.

It does matter as you get further into the draft where the bids and selections are less predictable and the lower draft picks used to match early bids are weeded out of the draft sequence.
