Ugle
Ben McKay
HH
These three I’m sure we are circling
Is everyone think we will go for two of them or just one?
We have currently picks 7, 22 and 26 ?
Ben McKay free agent and a tough match up for tall forwards and would allow us incredible flexibility with Blakey either end of the field
HH could give us 40 to 50 goals per season especially at the small SCG
Ugle is a 9 year go for it contract but we would have to give up picks 7 and 22 minimum I suspect

Found this from Tom Harley implying we are FINALLY going to be active players in trade and free agency this year.

McKay: He is a good player. But North will be keen to resign him ASAP. He is the Key they build a backline around and I can't see him going.
Ugle?? Are you talking about Ugle=Hagen? He doesn't even give the Bullies enough.
But we have been linked very heavily to Tom DeKoning. He is young and still developing as a Ruckman. If Cox gets hold of him I can see him being All Australian. He is worth a shot but I am not certain we should outlay $850,000/year. That seems a bit above what he is worth at this time but apparently we have offered that over 7 years.

Wolfy,
Maybe we have a slightly different philosophy on trade recruitment?
Mate i do think there is a short list of players and that list does not have just ONE player on it.
There would be 10 or more on the list of which the 3 i mentioned and the 1 you mentioned are all on it.
It is so bloody hard to get a player and a club to trade that sometimes you can not get your ideal but you can get a player that meets your teams needs !!!
Baz Hall only averaged low 20 goals a game before coming to the Swans where he averaged something like 50 goals a game. Over his six seasons at the Saints he was usedd back and forward. Like HH or others on our list there is alot of runway with tall players to be used how u need them too.
With HH that mayb to do a job in defence in year 1 and then when we have a better list of players at either end of the ground the plan could be to become a tall forward?
who would know but he can do either well and he has a booming kick that could replicate 40 goals a season under the right conditions and or team or team structure
for me he is on the short list"be tough, only when it gets tough"

Wolfy my guess is there is a short list and that the short list of possible trades doesnt just have one players name on it
I think that the player you recommended is on that list and so to the 3 players i have reviewed would be on there
there would be minimum 12 options for tall trades and I am sure there will be some others on their in other significant positions we may believe will help the team advance"be tough, only when it gets tough"

Scottee somtimes
some fans go for a Lewis Hamilton over a Jack Doohan when building a winning team
some fans go for both
some fans have to settle for Ricciardo.. lol
who knows what leads to a successful outcome?
I dont especially when our last pick 5 was ummmmmmm.......mmmm
But what i do know is that nothing polarises fans more than trades and picks at the draft
rarely do we see an agreed fan strategy on a combo of both"be tough, only when it gets tough"

The issue I have with De Koning is that I don't know what he is. Is he a ruckman? If so, not in the Darcy/Gawn/Grundy mold. He seems to be used by Carlton as a bit of an afterthought in the ruck?
Is he a forward? Maybe. It's hard to know when he's playing alongside Curnow and McKay, who are targeted so frequently by their midfield.
Is he a defender, like his brother? My guess is that he might be, and maybe clubs look at Sam at Geelong and see the same athletic and footballing attributes in Tom. But he's got close to no exposure playing as a key defender. Clearly the Blues don't see him that way, despite not really needing him in either the ruck (other than as a chop-out) or in their forward line.
Versatility in a player is one thing. A good thing. But ambiguity in a player? I am not so sure.Comment

The only way I can see us getting an experienced player without dudding ourselves is if Papley absolutely must go and we picks in return. There are some really good picks available down to about 40 this year. We would be made not to take advantage of that.

For me i would be looking more so at say Dylan Stephens (ex pick5). Maybe Adelaide sense he could flourish down in SA and is ready to make an immediate significant impact?
Would Adelaide do a swap of say their first draft pick (currently pick10?) because he is an ex pick5 and he is 4 years down the track of development in a serious squad like the swans?
Or if not possible........maybe we receive pick 10 and we give Stephens and Gould........ or Stephens and pick 26 in return for pick 10?
There are so many possibilities that dont have to mathematically stack up as we saw with Hawthorn last season and our pick swap / trades etc
Or Richmond and the two bog average current players (Taranto and Hopper) traded via GWS for a ransom.........they really are not that good despite their draft year allure"be tough, only when it gets tough"

I am not sure if Paps would be considered surplus right now by the club.........he could be.......but not for me as I think he is critical still in our forward line.

Even the mere mention or speculation of Paps leaving is giving me serious heartburn. I know he hasn't had his best year, and he's probably been one of the injured ones.
But his score involvement and assist numbers are usually elite - some of the best in the comp. He's not just a great goal kicker in his own right, who probably vies with Charlie Cameron as the best small forward in the game, but he's a major part of our team's scoring power. He's 26, in the prime of his career, has proven midfield capabilities and seems deeply settled in Sydney after the family issues almost caused him to leave a few years back. I get in trading and drafting you've sometimes got to give a little to get a little (ie: Allir and Hickey a few years ago), but long may Paps stay in the red and the white.'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment
