Cal Twomey's Phantom Form Guide: Top draft prospects' September ranking

I’m leaning towards Darcy Wilson as the talent we want to bring to the Swans with our first pick

Great video footage of an extremely talented and composed player. Smooth goal kicker.

If as KB saids we go for best talent available then he looks like in and around our pick

Re Cleary, I’ve seen one draft board (for whatever they’re worth, and they certainly give no insight on the Swans view of him) with him in the mid 20s. The rest have him late 30s and most are into the 40s. My guess is that given he’s got a real one wood in his ground ball/contested work, but otherwise depends on work rate and is a bit vanilla, that’s about right. That’s not to condemn him, as he certainly could not have done more in the championships and his draft year.

I guess it depends on whether you take a ceiling or floor view of what we’ve seen so far, and the Swans will know him better than anyone.

If I had to guess what’s likely, the Swans will probably take him, as they’ve shown they like adding to midfield depth. But as the night goes on and the number of points required for him slide, they may try to engineer a swap of picks to grab a player they see as value in. If, say for example, there’s no bid on Cleary by 35, and ZZ Top is still available, and they can move around what’s left to cover both, ping.

Yes, it is much better than the headline suggests. Rare to read an in-depth and fair-minded article on the Swans ("indefensibly, put an unjustifiable trade ban on the club" for example).

Can Sydney trade their way to a premiership again?

More proof that Nathan Buckley is one of the great morons in footy media.

There’s an article in the Hun today quoting Buckley as saying the Pies long term deal with Grundy at the end of 2019 was a mistake, challenged the club’s salary cap and that - get this - Grundy has to put his hand up for that.

You can have your view on the value of rucks or Grundy. But imagine if Buckley had only been in a position at the time to influence that decision. Either through expressing a view on list and cap management, or speaking with the player involved.

Seriously, he’s Luke Darcy level dumb that guy.

If we needed another medium defender Trey could be worth a punt!

AFL reporting Jack Ginnivan now likely on trade table with Schulz coming in. To repeat my view from last week - the perfect companion to Paps. Go get him.

A few weeks ago when I popped down on this thread……would we consider Jack Ginnivan…..there were just a few rumours he was looking elsewhere. Nothing substantial at all.

I was 50/50 on even raising the player as a possible because he is the type of player that divides our forum significantly…….. but to be fair to the possibility Jack G could add some scoreboard pressure. 42 games and 58 goals as a medium to small forward is not bad at 20yrs of age / 185cm albeit in a red hot team last couple years. Ie Logan McDonald 44 games 56 goals no4 draft pick.

Yet I wrestle with him being able to handle a swans environment. Jack Ginnivan couldn’t handle the Pies, who already have a few loose units that have pulled their heads in with training and performance. Yet Jack G he is very young compared to the others at the Pies who had to make big changes in their behaviour.

So what might tip the possibility of looking at bringing him in by tomorrow? ……..We do have to increase our goals significantly which is a serious other side of the ledger and a huge demand on our young talls - who have not played much footy really.

For me the easy answer would be to chat with Adams and or Grundy. They would have a very clear picture of JGinni and whether he has what it takes to keep evolving into a true AFL week in week out footy player.

So yes for a the right sort of trade pick wise you could imagine good value if he replaced say wicks spot in the salary cap? Probably similar $ pa ? Ie $350 to $450k pa ?

We would probably have to give up something from next year which might hurt as we have two first rounders next year but no second rounder which might have got it done?

I wonder if the Pies have their eyes on another trade? Need the $cap space and list space?

Hawthorn Hawks keen on premiership Collingwood Magpie Jack Ginnivan in trade shock

I say 'let them have him' if it comes to that....not sure he fits our culture yet. He might one day but atm he's still young and 'rambunctious'. Could be a risk.....plus, is he really that great? Not so sure.

Trust me, half the kids who come to us these days are young and rambunctious and a bit rat baggery. We've got another small forward on our list who made a career out of it! And how many 19yos kicked 40 goals in a season? Ginnivan can play and watch him - he has very natural footy instincts.

I'd do it for a pick in the 30s and AFL average salary. Alas, it looks like the Hawks have it covered.

Super interesting how much Collingwood have wanted very specific small forward skill sets traded in last two seasons. They had ok with Jack Ginni and Adams already.

Even more so how much they were willing to trade to make it happen vs other goal pressure options.

A pick in the 30s and a future first round pick for Schulz. Pricey or a bargain?

The Giants traded Bobby Hill and its round-three selection (pick No.40) to Collingwood for its round-three selection (43) and its future second-round selection.

Both these guys scored 24 goals each this season - so not huge numbers……but as we saw with Bobby Hill a game plan was partly shaped around his ability and surprise leads for possession and he nailed them in a GF.

                                Hmmmmm

                                Interesting.

Let’s hope Konstanty is a critical piece in our small forward goals and not a Jed Lamb ????
