Very clever by the AFL to tie granting a licence to building a roofed stadium. AFL only want the draining nuisance of a 19th team on the AFL's terms.
If the Tasmanian guvment and general population can't get behind it then it won't fly - no deal.
Hard to see any Tassie kid not wanting to be part of the historic first Tassie team, the AFL will ensure start up concessions sweep them all up but I reckon you just draft them and hope the 19th licence falls over. Compo will be generous for losing clubs.

So we rank forwards by tackles now? So Wicks is superior to Paps as a forward? And poor old Plugger and Wazza can be viewed as failures because all they did was kick goals.
Wicks has plenty of opportunity to tackle because he’s not impeded by having the ball in his hands.Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.Comment

He was our best defensive forward. Paps had a bad year. His output was minimal and not helped by being used in the mids.
Wicks is a valuable member of the forward line. I am not saying he is better than Papley. Papley is one of the best forwards in the game & has been from day one.
Wicks was the most valuable at keeping the ball in forward 50. Paps is not that forward. Isaac, Will yes. Paps no. Paps is pure talent. Wicks has not got that but he has value. He is hard at it and keeps the ball alive in the forward 50 so Paps & others can clean up

If we decided to use our earlier pick we n another player
If we decide to use approx pick 45 and 55 on Cleary and apply a 20% academy discount
We maybe 200pts short which would come off our first round pick in 2024?

Well that is certainly the highest I think I've seen him.
Cal Twomey has certainly been suggesting there's some love around the joint for him and a mid-20s pick could be on the cards, and he's as tuned in as anyone.
But there's a lot of draft boards having him in the 40s. I guess it's a bit of a thing - do you focus on what he does really well, which is sweep up an absolute bucket of ground and contested balls and run all day, or focus on what he lacks, which is a bit of athleticism and hurt factor. I have to admit I went into the u18s carnival a bit more in the second camp, but watching what he does well and how consistently he played, probably fell into the first camp as I reckon there is a truism in watching juniors: if they can win contests and the ball, you can teach them other things; if they can't win contests and the ball, they ain't gonna get very far at all.
I do think he'll have a challenge in his first couple of years if he plays seniors, which is that he's unlikely to start right inside; so can he contribute enough otherwise. Errol had the nous and running and kicking skills to do so, Campbell had the kick and speed to play down back while he developed his tank and game. Cleary will require some patience, but I suspect he'll be worth it. And I reckon he'll benefit immensely from having Taylor Adams at the club to teach him a bit, as I don't think the fundamentals of their game are that different (although Adams at his peak was a high-end talent).'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment

I wouldn’t put too much credence on what comes out of the ABC. Most pundits have Cleary as a late second rounder at best, and most probably a third rounder. If a club selected him at pick 19 there is a strong chance the Swans would pass.Comment

i think the Swans passing would be fairly unlikely
But as suggested if Gulden was not valued until 32 ish.......... then you would think Cleary is more a 40ish pick unless the other options are fairly ordinary
the go home factor for Cleary would be significant if picked by another club which would put off most clubs besides GWS"be tough, only when it gets tough"
